Films I watched this week (NO SPOILERS) (Vol 3)
Discussion
Not a feature film but I stumbled across a good documentary film on the iplayer last night from 1982, 24 hours at le mans it was great I'd not seen it before worth a watch.

Watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent last night and was pleasantly surprised. Quirky little film with a Nic Cage, as er, Nic Cage and Pablo Pascale. The story was oddball and the cars lovely. Fabulous scene in the Speedster on LSD. I’ve probably not seen half of the films referenced but lots of little Easter eggs/parodies in there to classics made it fun.
Pedro Pascal...X (on Prime) and Pearl (preview shown on Monday)
I saw Pearl first and only realised after I booked it that it's a prequel to X. Watching the prequel first made X better in a way because you knew what was coming in a few places
X. Set in the 70s, a group (including Mia Goth and Jenna Ortega) stay at a place on an old couples farm to film 'adult entertainment videos'. The old couple find out and don't like it, then the killing starts. (Gore, sex, boobs, no you don't see Wednesday's)
Pearl. Set on the same farm in 1918, Pearl (Mia Goth) wants to be in films as a dancer, but she's stuck doing farm work and looking after her father who is ill from the Spanish Flu pandemic. (Gore, sex)
They're making a third film set in the 80s
Mia Goth plays 2 parts in X, in one part she's unrecognisable to Colin Farrell in The Batman levels. In Pearl, the credits 'freeze frame' is worth it by itself (think Police Squad )

Been off with this seasons lurgey so watched a lot of telly.
13 Hours - The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi
Michael bay film (don’t let that put you off) based on the true story of the uprising in Benghazi. Elite soldiers vs the locals holed up in a base with no support for, you guessed it, 13 hours.
Lots of beardy men, lots of guns, lots of action and explosions.
Really enjoyed this one - decent performances all round and not your average war film.
Summit Fever
Mountaineering adventure film - group of climbers get caught in a storm, how do they survive??
Some horrible acting - especially they guy playing the English climber. Starring Ryan Phillipe who appears to have hit the Botox quite hard as he’s got older and can’t pull any facial expressions.
Shame the storyline was so poor as lots was filmed actually climbing in some stunning locations in Europe not on green screen like most modern climbing films. Passed a couple of hours easily if you can get over the poor acting in places.

Yes, this is a very good movie, and, as far as I can tell keeps to the actual events very well. it is surprisingly good for a Michael Bay movie, it isn't Transformers 2. 13 Hours - The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi

Most car chases these days look like they're only going about 30mph.
Anyway - partway through The Cannonball Run and DAMN Farrah Fawcett was beautiful.
[Edit] Finished - the outtakes alone are worth the effort.

I've never seen Cannonball II. I read the Wiki synopsis last night and I never want to watch it now.

It was very very good and felt like Bay took the fact it was a true-story very seriously.
Considering it was Hollywood it was remarkably accurate. Some of the dialogue is disputed, particularly the exchanges between the Special Forces soldiers and the Station Chief, but where it is disputed Bay has accepted the survivors of those soldiers account of what was said so it is not like it was simply invented for dramatic purposes. As far as I can tell though from reading about the events, it is almost exactly what happened. Perhaps some of the gunfights are embellished somewhat.

It was that good, I'm shocked that I just found out Bay made it.
Same I watched it the other night. Only one shot of a battered American flag to patriotic music...It was very very good and felt like Bay took the fact it was a true-story very seriously.
