Bentley - not for me. We had a Shadow (one of the only V8 diesel converted ones ever done) and it was an event, but not my idea of an interesting old car even then. Too much BL genesis in there.

The XR2 is a bit more my era - another car we experienced in the days when you could get one for £150. Bit of fun, not fast. I’m happier with a Puma.

Nice to be showcasing some different old cars and eras though!

Series final this evening frown at least that is what my TV & Sat mag is saying. Though, to be fair, it's not always right.

That MG YA had more money spent than it was worth. But the colours! Respray by "We saw you coming bodyshop". Probably using up spare greens they had left over from a fire sale.

I remember that as a standard two-tone for the YA.

Not seen the episode yet but what do you mean by too much BL? Not British Leyland BL surely?

It’s the Pressed Steel shell, and the general sh...oddiness of many peripheral parts of the car. You can blame Lucas amongst others too. Just felt like a big, complicated shed. Honestly, seemed worse in most respects than a P5B.

I thought the XR2 sold well cheaply , compared to some ridiculous prices for fast Fords .

That's 1985 fast , as in 96 BHP I believe this should have had .

Narrator said needed restoration , I thought a decent recommission would be sufficient .

Well the new owners said the floor was like a Fred Flintstone car so I doubt a recommission would make it roadworthy

Have a soft spot for those MG YA saloons, went round the Laon circuit years ago in one when the TVR Vixen decided to break down for the weekend.

Lovely old things. smile

Don’t think you can blame BL just because they made the body! How on earth are Lucas to blame as most Lucas parts would be hidden, e.g. the pair of Cortina calipers per front wheel....

I did wonder, if the XR2 had been a mk1 would it have sold for more?

I did too. I don't usually go for the older stuff but the Singer was lovely in profile. Long bonnet, small cabin at the rear....

It was a lovely thing, much like a baby Bugatti of yesteryear. Was my favourite car in the programme.

Reading the comments on this thread - I felt I should be able to say my bit.

Some of you know that I left Mathewsons in September and won’t be in the next series.
Please remember that I was there to do a job - manage an auction house - not ‘star on the telly’ . The filming is done over a long period and edited into different shows - so I don’t see how I can have changed.
I loved working with the TV crew, they are a fabulous team and we had a blast, but the show really changed my job and particularly it’s environment- to the extent that I made a decision to leave.
I’m not sure someone ‘struck by stardom’ would have made that decision.

I hope you all have a fabulous Christmas and hopefully a better 2021.
Sorry to hear you have left Matthewsons Sarah. I thought you added some humour to the programme. All the best for your future.👍

I did like the comment from Sarah in the last show "I'm not young and I'm not a lady".

Having spent far too many years in customer facing roles myself, I can sympathise. Onwards and upwards, please keep that dry wit about you. I wish you all the best.

It will not be as good without you Sarah.
