Thoroughly enjoyed that. For me, probably the best of the Grand Tour so far, and something I would like to watch for a second time.

Just one complaint - I couldn’t get it to play in 4K HDR, but all previous episodes do without issue. Was stuck at 1080p and no HDR for some reason. Really fast internet, playing through a Fire Stick 4K on an LG OLED 4K TV (and yes, I’d selected the 4K version of the show!). Weird!
Ignore me if this is a stupid question, had you picked the hdr 4K version?

For some reason through my tv app it’s almost impossible to find the 4K version and for a while I just watched the normal hd episodes.

He has been watching The Last Ship, he hadn’t noticed that TGT special had been released. He is up to season 4 of The Last Ship. His wife is hogging the prime access in the one room he gets it in so doesn’t get to watch what he wants unless he gets to it first. It would seem he needs another Firestick for his other TV.

I think ???
Thank you. The fact that The Last Ship should have capitals, denoting that it is the name of a programme (that I've never heard of), and it isn't just a boat that he can see somewhere helps to make some sense of it all.

Yes I had. Seems really silly to have a 4K and a non-4K version though!

Really enjoyed it, a reasonable balance between the arguing, pranks, manufactured cocking about, bit of lads abroad (knock off market, odd food), history, sightseeing, and some difficult and tricky uncomfortable bits.

Will watch again, if only to check my impression that they didn't show much of how May's 'vintage Thames river launch' handled the rough stuff. Camera crew were genuinely at risk there.

Of course the rivet counters are in with the complaints about dubbed crash sounds. Meh. Though must be said, while close quarter manoeuvres with twin engine jet boats can be tricky, they're not THAT difficult, if folks will allow me my own rivet counter moment. hehe

When you know it just bugs you. Much like the Winston Wolf GT86 ads, where it's dubbed to sound like a V6.

I did notice that May was kept at a distance and wondered if it was due to his relationship with the other 2.

But, the person writing the article missed the tone of the show completely. Clarkson talking about climate change for example was him dropping the Bs persona he has become famous for. Yes, there was still the usual buffoonery of hitting boats but for the most part they would have been planted. And, if not, the noise dubbed over the top of every hit became the equivalent of the Wilhelm Scream it was so obviously not real.
It’s with the specials that you have a tendency for the real Clarkson to emerge a little bit. It will probably have been quite a shock for some to hear him discussing climate change as a given, which may be compounded by the subtle, liberal, message about the local oppression of the Chinese regime.

Their best output tends to be when they manage to get the right blend of school boy tttery with intelligent commentary.

I actually wish Clarkson would do more documentaries on the subjects that he is passionate about as he is a wealth of knowledge in several areas.

I got the distinct impression that this is exactly what this latest episode of TGT was pitching at. May is already doing a solo series of the type he was supreme at on the BBC and Amazon would be daft not to tap the talent and intellect of Clarkson for some more serious docu stuff. Not like he doesn't have a good record in this area already.

I am normally a fan but I got bored and stopped watching it after the seemingly endless shallow muddy lake section, does it get better and should I go back to it?

This is the single worst bit about Amazon Video. Why all of the EPG entries don't just default to 4k/HDR where available I've got no idea. Dumb dumb dumb.

Enjoyed the special though smile as many I watched whilst awaiting the exit polls, the Corbyn digs in the special were fairly well timed!

Absolutely, the final 30 minutes are excellent.

Old blokes cocking about. What's not to like?

It was okay. Everything scripted and staged. It would be so much funnier if it wasn't.

Another positive opinion from me, I really enjoyed it. Not their greatest episode, but a fun watch anyway.

I enjoyed too. Re scripting/planning - does nobody recall the unscripted/unplanned one they did in the eastern Mediterranean(?)

Highly enjoyable 90 minutes.

If anything it could have done with a bit more sight seeing and more of the “war-doc” stuff. Having been to both Cambodia and Vietnam it was abundantly clear we don’t get taught anything at all about stuff like Pol Pot & Khmer Rouge, the killing fields, S21and what went down in the Vietnam war. It’s incredibly interesting and fraught with very serious history lessons. And it wasn’t all that long ago!

We leave school knowing nothing about it, presumably because it never happened on our doorstep, yet I think it just as important to know about as The world wars. The people are great though, extremely friendly and fun. Our rider in Phnom Penh said the supreme prime minister bloke had been in power 30 years and that he had no intention of giving up. We got the impression he was a bit 9 bob notey as well. They think his son will succeed him. We probably wouldn’t stand for that kind of thing here, but there, of the remaining oldies that managed to stay alive, the only alternative they’ve known was the Khmer Rouge. So a bent prime minister is a small price to pay for not being rounded up and kicked into a shallow mass grave.

It was 90 minutes of enjoyable telly, not particularly interprets in boats so would rather more history and sites as someone mentioned above

One or two laugh out loud moments especially Hammond washes his eyes out with the bottle of water, constantly crashing was tiresome but that is nitpicking
