Berlin Syndrome (2017)
Lone Aussie tourist wakes up in a locked East Berlin apartment after partying with a German chap. Investigating further confirms that she's in a bit of a pickle.
Thought this was pretty good; lead actors especially. Maybe a tad too horror in places but generally well worth watching. Plus added bonus of crumbling commie buildings & The Fernsehturm in the background & a very clean Audi 100.
One for me to watch as I went up the Fernsehturm back in 68 as my Grandparents lived in East Berlin.Lone Aussie tourist wakes up in a locked East Berlin apartment after partying with a German chap. Investigating further confirms that she's in a bit of a pickle.

OT My mum used to drive there every summer in her moggy 1000. How the locals ogled at that 4 cylinder engine in comparison to their 2 stroke Trabbys and Wartburgs!
I so wished as a 14 year old lad that my Dad would have been there in his 3.8 S Jaguar.........

Dunkirk.
9/10. Would have been a 10/10, but I found the soundtrack a bit much/intrusive.
Keep meaning to watch this as I've heard it's ace but the trailers make it all look a bit grim and I think you have to be in the right mood to watch a depressing, realistic account of war and I just haven't been.9/10. Would have been a 10/10, but I found the soundtrack a bit much/intrusive.

John Wick has cooler cars, much better costume, far more varied and entertaining bad guys, MUCH better music.
It does exactly what it says on the tin and doesn't try to pretend to be anything other than a stylish beatmeup.
It is not high art, it's entertainment. Take your head out of your ass and enjoy it as such. Or sit there tutting, up to you.
Ah, that London response. It does exactly what it says on the tin and doesn't try to pretend to be anything other than a stylish beatmeup.

Let me guess, you are young, English and probably a scaffolder.
English - yes. Like 90% of the people on here. You're smart.
A scaffolder - No. Don't you know scaffolders are polish these days.
One out of three means you lose.
What makes it "that London" response then ? Is opinion on what counts as entertainment a regional thing where you're from ? i.e. if you're from Lancashire you immediately like the Chuckle brothers but are opposed to "Withnail and I" ? What angle are you trying to pull there ?

you need to be in the right mood, it isn't depressing I found it quite m emotionally draining, it is very emotive, the story really sucks you in, the sound is integral so watch with a good system.phazed said:

You'll enjoy it; especially the interior scenes in an old DDR house. OT My mum used to drive there every summer in her moggy 1000. How the locals ogled at that 4 cylinder engine in comparison to their 2 stroke Trabbys and Wartburgs!

No angle at all. Just my response to your reply, (" Take your head out of your ass and enjoy it as such. Or sit there tutting, up to you"). Standard retort.BTW, as an employer in the building trade I subcontract to two scaffolding companies and strangely none of their employees are Eastern European which is surprising as they seem to be in all other walks of life in this country.
John Wick is quality film making - in that genre.
John Wick 2 is also quality film making - in that genre - although since all element of surprise is lost, and expectation is easily met, it loses marks for now being 'as' good as the first.
No, its not up there with Schindlers List, you'd have to be a London scaffolder to think that...
I do wonder if people read up on what the premise of the films are before they watch them....interested to know what film 'of this type' is preferred...or is 'better' in 'your' opinion...
But for a revenge driven, glamorised sequence of choreographed set pieces, the production, direction, action, effects, lighting, all that stuff, was pretty high end.... and wasn't it their first go at directing as well?

John Wick didn’t really work for me. I didn’t like it. I didn’t hate it. I just kind of watched it then forgot about it. Don’t really get why people love it.
I like a violent action film as much as the next man, from classics like Die Hard to nonsense like Taken (but only the first one). I even like Keanu Reeves, and as others said he can do action hero stuff well.
Maybe it’s because I was born in ‘that London’.

We stopped off there for the day on the way back from a ring trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone’s different.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - 9/10
Wonderful understated film with a couple of fantastic performances (Rockwell and McDormand in particular). Dark but funny and nice to see an ending that absolutely hasn't been Hollywoodised.

Is it officially out yet in the UK? If so, where did you see it?

I also watched this over the weekend. I'd been meaning to see it since it came out and I didn't not enjoy it, but all I will say is that the Americans have got one hell of a revenge boner.
