RT has form for fiddling, though the user score of 79% seems quite good. Metacritic on the surface has a realistic score.
I used to love Empire (have issues from 1990-200ish for sale if anyone ants 'em. biggrin).
I couldn't stand more than ten mins of Drive, but I'm willing to give it another shot if Empire rates it, film of the year is impressive considering Nightcrawler came out the same year.
Funny old world,loved Drive,hated Nightcrawler.

Blade runner 2049.

A bit long and boring, nothing new really.
Each to their own, and all. However, I loved it and particularly liked the fact that it was a genuine sequel rather than a soft reboot.

Drive
Quite possibly the worst film I've watched this decade, and a criminal waste of a good cast. 0/10
fantastic movie

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion whatever they may be, but maybe when you don't like a movie that has 93% on RT and is Empire's best film of the year its not to your taste as opposed to be a poor movie?
What rating do the spice girls get?

I’m with him so,so poor.

Just tried bright, was suspending disbelief until the shootout and magic..

Turned off.

Oh and el guapo. If you think drive was bad you need to see only god Forgives

Or just the last 20 minutes for a laugh. Jesus that guy cant act.

Lego Batman
I've not seen any of the other Lego films and this isn't normally my thing but I have to admit I really enjoyed it.

8.7/10
I've just watched the Lego Batman film and thought it was very good, I like the use of CGI lego, some of the music is well chosen too, definitely one for the kids with bits in their to keep adults happy.

I'll give it 9/10

Very late to the party and fully admit to putting off watching it in case it did not live up to the hype, but caught La La Land tonight.

I'm not sure cinema can get much better than that TBH. Only thing I can criticise was the lip synching on a couple of obviously mimed singing sequences but otherwise pretty jaw dropping. Clever and entertaining. clap

Has anyone seen Bright yet?
Tried watching it last night, managed 40 minutes before giving up. No redeeming features, Will Smith is picking some really bad 'star' roles recently.
You did better than I did, then. I think I got 12 minutes in before turning to Mrs.T66 and asking if she thought it was as sh!te as I did. She agreed and it was turned off. Will Smith, I find, is difficult to watch at the best of times.

The Foreigner was OK. Did they pick Pierce Brosnan on purpose to look like Gerry Adams?

American Assassin - lasted longer than 'Bright', but not by much. As soon as the young hotheaded upstart got to the war veteran's cabin for training and assessment I realised it was a script I'd sat through a thousand times before.

Settled for watching I, Tonya - which I really enjoyed.

After hearing about "The Disaster Artist" I ordered a copy of "The Room" from the US and watched it last night.

It's hard to say if its the worst film ever but it has to be up there. I'm not quite sure why it's such a cult film though. I also have no idea how they spent $6m making it - the green screen stuff is beyond bad and they seem to use 2 sets for the remaining stuff.

Saying all that, Tommy Wiseau is the worst actor ever biggrin

I'm sorry I couldn't disagree more - I thought it was a real let down. billed as a return to classic hollywood song and dance a la astair and rogers- it was all a bit meh, neither a comedy, a musical or even a believable romance for me. i had high hopes to be dashed on the rocks after about 30 minutes.

on a completely different note i watched Ex Machina last night - really impressed, works on several levels and excellent performances.

Finding Dory - its ok. i never thought I'd say this but the Octopus stole the show.....!!!!!????

It was utter garbage.
I watched it with my wife and mum (so a variety of tastes and none of us liked it. Nearly switched it off after about 30 minutes but wanted to see how everyone thought this was so wonderful, it never got any better. The songs were ropey and instantly forgettable and not that well sung, the dancing was nothing special and the characters were basically unpleasant.
Looked nice.

La la.

Well, that really goes to show the differences of opinions.

I saw it on the big screen which certainly helped it along.

I cringed at the opening sequence on the freeway, (I generally don't go for musicals) but thoroughly enjoyed the remainder, sort of grew on me as it progresses.

I agree it is a little forgettable in a disposable way but hit the spot at the time.

I loved it but I could watch Emma Stone in most things and enjoy it.

Also hated Drive.

Spirited Away
I was with my parents, my sister, and her 4 kids (ranging in age from 10 to 14), and none of them had any exposure to anime nor had even heard of Studio Ghibli. So with a little trepidation I put it on for us all to watch.

My dad found it boring and fell asleep, and my mum kept saying throughout the film that it was charming, and she could see why I like it, but it was very slow paced and she thought I had made the wrong choice and that the kids were all on their phones and tablets and not watching.

Only they were - at various points they were glued to the screen.

After it had ended, my sis and the kids all said they loved it. And my sis said she would never have watched something like that, but is so glad she had.

I agree that it's a little slow paced and at 2hr20 it is rather long (I'd forgotten how long it was) but overall it was a win I think

Funny, isn't it. I quite liked that bit and thought it went downhill from there.

We watched "Bright" on Netflix.

It was OK. About a half hour too long, I think. Perfectly OK but the pacing was too slow for the plot content.

Also watched ARQ. Silly fun.

35% and strangely didn't feature on Empire's best of the year list

Big Hero 6, what a wonderful film. Just on BBC1, great story and characters. Best Disney film I've seen for a long time.
