I've stopped watching it. It's gone very downhill. Avid 25 year viewer.
If you look further back in this thread you'll see a similar post from me some months ago. I quit in September after watching for over 30 years.I dip into this thread from time to time, to see if its worth tuning in again, but what I read here only endorses my decision to quit.

Hoping gemma and rubber face story dies down now. She's annoying as is chesney
Hopefully get back to decent storylines or might need a decent break from it. Fun has gone!
The actress playing Gemma is a very very good, but inevitably the writers have given the character a ‘serious’ storyline and ruined her fun and comedic role.Hopefully get back to decent storylines or might need a decent break from it. Fun has gone!
Edit to add, Mary was on fire on last Friday’s episodes. Enjoyed her with Jan and with Tracy double-act.

Mary had great lines tonight. Another WTF "mother" story with the Plymouth Brethren and a missing tambourine. You couldn't make it up - although come to think about it, it is made up.
She knew what a French tickler is......
When she finally leaves Corrie, Mary should do a tour of theatres recounting all of her many tales. She knew what a French tickler is......

She is no one trick pony isn't Gemma . It is precisely because she can do serious as well as funny that she is such an asset . Mary, Norris and Roy are in the small minority of actors here who can do nuance. Most of the rest can't even spell it- I'm talking about you , Gary , especially ... I found the content of last night's 2 episodes a little bizarre. We all like a bit of humour, and it's certainly been absent for too long, but the whole Mary/Freda/Norris scenario was plain daft. I would have preferred to see Norris written back into the Street in a more orthodox manner. There are plenty of opportiunities for Mary to shine in other situations.
Then there's the Yasmeen/Geoff relationship. I see them as 2 peripheral characters, and any storyline about them is all a little unnecessary (unless Geoof intends to take out his frustrations with a kitchen knife). I suppose it all makes a change from the interminable factory roof saga.
PS Is Steve always going to be the buffoon of the Street? They always dress him to look like the village idiot. That outfit he was wearing last night

I think Gemma is a gem and if they don't make her story too tedious we should be in for some good stuff. Even the pregnancy is done with humour thrown in.. Great to have a couple of episodes without Gary and Monkey Face glowering. I loved the dialogue between Gemma and her brother regarding breast feeding!

I'd heard that she was leaving because of the pregnancy - That said, I've not really watched Corrie lately...Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
