It was episode 10k. I was expecting something big, half thinking Rita was going to fall asleep in the corner of a Rovers bench and not wake up.

All it was was an excuse for the writers to tie up a few loose ends. Disappointing. Overly sentimental tosh.

Unfortunately I have to agree, no real plot advancement, just an hour of filler. Bit like a Christmas edition when it doesn’t really matter if you watched or not.

I can cut the producers some slack - 10,000 episodes is quite an achievement , if not a world record . And how remarkable that Ken Barlow was in episode 1 and 58 years later he is the father of the street. The plot was absurd and it better shape up next week (and please! No more flashing blue lights every bloody episode) but it deserved a bit of self indulgence - and it had its moments.

How do you go from Manchester to Blackpool and get lost on some back roads? It's pretty much a straight run up the motorway

It was demented. Half expected them to turn up at the local shop.

Surely maximum of 1 hour jaunt up the M6. Even allowing for traffic 2 hours tops plus they have services for the incontinent driver. I love the way Mary drives them home with no insurance or PSV licence.

It's about 40 miles! It's less than an hour! M61 - M6 - M55

I laughed when Geoff ‘allowed’ Yasmin to go on the trip, and pulled out his wallet and gave her £5 rolleyeslaugh

Also Tracy using Emma’s dead dad as an excuse to get her, Emma and Amy on the trip.

Anyone noticed the Prosecco product placement? Not very subtle!

Would the coach driver and Mary become an item?

We also wondered whether there might be a potential romance in the offing.

I thought that Underworld was now packing and distribution. Why have they got sewing machines?

See the dodgy copper in the Bethany abuse storyline is now advertising the new Kia.

That whole factory story is ludicrous. Factory financially on its knees, factory roof collapses, eventually rebuilt by jobbing builder and his son. Turns out as some super office and not a factory, just used for packing, but now up and running again for knicker sewing. lots of staff but now recruiting. I am struggling to keep up!

Who would you have back if you could?
Reg Holdsworth I think for me, played by Ken Morley he was daft as a brush and gave some good lighthearted entertainment.

Not possible but Blanche any day for me. Her put downs and one liners just hit the spot.

There are dozens if they were available - Stan and Hilda, Jack and Vera, Curly, Eddie Yeats, Elsie Tanner, all great characters and offering something to the scripts. Today's lot are relatively bland, excusing Mary and the Steve/Tim combo.

Agreed in part, but there are others who shine. Roy is a prime example, as is Evelyn. Amy is morphing in to a mini-Tracey really nicely too.

My vote would be 1, Blanch, 2, Pat Phelan, 3, Hayley Cropper. Please never let the wooden god botherer Emily Bishop return.
