Yes definitely at The Ridge. I’m wondering if they turned up expecting the usual car meet but got the wrong day or the turnout was rubbish because of Covid and they didn’t want to use footage of a gathering of 3 cars.
If it was going to be the wrong day you would think the Ridge would have let them know so maybe was the latter?
Normally a bit more like this, which would have fit into the narrative a bit better. One of the local clubs basically think they are 1950s Americans and come dressed up most of the time so would have been good for the narrative too.
I think you have hit it dead on. The text from Wilman stating that he had created this place where they and their cars would fit right in makes perfect sense given what you posted. Unfortunately they didn't have the footage to let it play out, so we got that scene in the bar which was rather weak.If it was going to be the wrong day you would think the Ridge would have let them know so maybe was the latter?

I thought it wasn't quite as bad as Seamen or A Massive Hunt that preceded it, but it was still gasping for breath quite a bit. It might have been better if instead of '70s luxo-boats, they had selected a Mustang, a Camaro and a Barracuda right from the start and stayed with those.
I wonder how much the Charger that they destroyed ended up costing Amazon.

The only recent special that has worked for me was Seaman, purely due to the boat premise and the absense of cars (even though there were plenty of predictable elements). The last two just haven't worked for me and just feel like the team going through the motions to fulfil their contractual obligations. They've all clearly enjoyed making their own shows, and for the most part it really shows on screen (Hammonds god awful desert island show excepted). This just felt phoned in to me.

Do you mean the Charger that broke down as Hammond was just driving it normally along a public road?TG & TGT have a track record of destroying cars through misuse and other methods but it seems a bit of a stretch to say they destroyed it here. Yes it's always embarrassing when a vehicle that's not yours breaks whilst in your care, that's just the name of the game. Probably most motoring journalists and testers have suffered that experience, plus the awkward phone call which follows. Sometimes the vehicle will have broken due to severe stress of max power launches and thoroughly wringing its neck, but this didn't seem like that scenario.

Was it the front though? Looked like a rear to me?
Does anyone know what the castle they "borrowed" for the night was? It looked oddly familiar to one I've seen before but I can't place it
They absolutely showed the front right wheel as flat as per the below shot, the further evidenced by the shot a few seconds later with a fully intact drivers side. I can forgive the other silly stuff as it's decent telly but hammond and may both understand a fair bit about cars and engineering. And that the engine "blew up" while stationary and upon attempting a restart (while the car would have been in park)Does anyone know what the castle they "borrowed" for the night was? The latest Harry's Garage preview of the upcoming Silverstone Auctions sale is interesting. Several cars in there from the Richard Hammond Collection - all without reserve. According to Harry, Hammond's selling them because he's starting up this car restoration business / show ("The Smallest Cog"), and is having to fund it himself.
Does that suggest, perhaps, a lack of willingness this time for Amazon to invest in Hammond's product?
Given his last show, most likely.Does that suggest, perhaps, a lack of willingness this time for Amazon to invest in Hammond's product?
That has always bothered me. Hammonds engineering programs are normally very entertaining. Arguably, outside of TG/TGT, it was the stuff he was best known for and most comfortable with. I really don’t know why he didn’t make a series based on that premise. I’m sure with Amazon’s big budget and marketing, it would have been superb. Shame, really.
