Have they really made painting into a reality TV competition? Mind you, watching it dry wouldn't be worse than most of the other similar shows.
It's not new. Watercolour Challenge, 1998-2001. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/watercolour-cha..."A 49-part series hosted by actress Hannah Gordon, the challenge is to find Britain's best amateur painter and along the way to explore the landscapes of Britain"
I'm watching it. I think it was a shame Jan got sent away. He isn't the best artist there but he's improving and I quite like his style (though his self-portrait was scary!). I thought it might have been Anne that left as she had a lot of criticism.
I used to watch Watercolour Challenge too - I learnt quite a lot from that programme!

Agreed. . .the lady in blue hat (is that Anne)I thought was a more obvious choice to go, still its a watchable showI used to watch Watercolour Challenge too - I learnt quite a lot from that programme!
I watched it on catch-up TV and thought it was a good programme. Shame I missed the first one.
Jan's self portrait was how he liked to see himself rather than his reflection in the mirror. He should have argued that It was unfortunate that a lot of reference was made to him being an ex-police artist as if he wasn't really an amateur after all.
I think it was Anthea in the blue hat and she was probably in the bottom two or three.

Well. Just watched the final and no hints as to the winner.
I wondered what others thought of the series? I enjoyed it but couldn't stand Una Stubbs or the lady judge.
It has made me want to paint more though.
All in all it wasn't a bad series. Una Stubbs was annoying and the woman judge was lacking in constructive criticism at times. And what's with Richard Bacon's yellow watch Was TKMaxx having clearance sale?I wondered what others thought of the series? I enjoyed it but couldn't stand Una Stubbs or the lady judge.

The young girl and the winner were the best artists for me; not sure about the small woman (Amy?) - bit inconsistent.

I actually liked the young girls stuff but when it comes to it she seemed like (or was) an A level art student.
The best in my view was the army chap when he let his style come through.
Enjoyable and harmless and I hope for another series.
I reckon they will do another series, but probably keep Una as at least she is harmless !!
To me the right guy won, Amy produced her best painting of the series, Claire went of the rails with the rectangle, and Paul was above the others from the get go in my opinion.
Judges, hmmmm, I think the show could be improved if one of them also did the challenge they set for the painters, but not sure how practical that would be. But overall I think they did a good job.
