What's the film where he's an ex GI, but he's gone off the rails, part of the films set in Mexico? That's a great film!
Harsh times Great movie

The problem is at least half the film was stuff to do with launching a new 'Dark Universe' series of monster films based on their old classics. Apparently they might have expensively binned this idea.
It feels a lot like someone wrote a nice dark Mummy film, then someone else came along, hacked most of the guts of it out and put all the unrelated franchise launch stuff in instead. Hence the Jekyll/Hyde and similar bits feeling so randomly stuffed in.
I hope so. Utterly stupid. When I first heard of it, it sounded like a decent idea, but I thought they;'d be in the horror genre, not action, most modern action films are turd. Shame really. It feels a lot like someone wrote a nice dark Mummy film, then someone else came along, hacked most of the guts of it out and put all the unrelated franchise launch stuff in instead. Half in the Bag Episode 138: 2017 Movie Catch-up (part 2 of 2)
https://youtu.be/Yav1kBLXMxIChristian Bale has been in my top five actors for decades, I had to go look to see when I started to like him. I watched American PSycho, I am surprised it was 2000, would yhhabe guessed at much earlier, I think it must be Reign if Fire, because I was please he became Batman. Not sure when I saw the Machinist, but I was absorbed by it. Love stuff like that, Memento, Mirage etc.

Darkest Hours
Brilliant turn by Oldman as Churchill with great support from Kristen Scott-Thomas as his wife. Ben Mendelson is good as King George VI too although all he cast are good. Maybe not movie of the year but Oldman’s performance is up there with 2017’s best and I think it could get him an Oscar as Oscars are often a career award rather than a specific performance. Based on an actual performance I’d give it to Timothée Chalamet....but I reckon Gary Oldman has it in the bag.
The small clip I saw on some show looked brilliant. I have loved Oldman for years, always give an intriguing performance. Not heard of the other guy.Brilliant turn by Oldman as Churchill with great support from Kristen Scott-Thomas as his wife. Ben Mendelson is good as King George VI too although all he cast are good. Yeah, Serendity is an exceptional film in it's genre. Stuff happens and it means something. I feel that some of Wheedon's later stuff has lost a bit of that. Though I migbt be confusing over MCU directors with his schizzle.
BSG was a great piece of sci-fi in the early 00s to forge onto success.

Can't wait. I didn't really fancy Sicario but a few people I know said it was brilliant so gave it a try. I thought it was excellent. Mysterious, tense, well shot and I enjoyed the characters as they developed.
The female lead was superb. They managed to show her as a strong character in her own right but also vulnerable. They could have made her all kick ass but she ends up getting roughed up just as much as she takes down a bad guy or two. Top marks for also showing a female as a victim of the old honey trap. Despite this, you never feel she is weak or out of her depth.
Yeah, it enthralled me. The bit where she spots that lil wristlet thing, and then when he keeps up the act you think, is she wrong, and then it flips again, very good. It'll make me search out the directors other stuff. Like Jarmusch mentioned, when one finds a good director it's a treat. The female lead was superb. I read an article that said that Neeson turned down action roles earlier in his career as he knew that once he started down that path, it would dominate his career from then on, and that would be plenty of time for that later on in his career.
Seems that his comments were accurate / prophetic.
I've also seen an interview where he said they all expected Taken to be a straight to DVD schocky crap affair, and then it blew up!Seems that his comments were accurate / prophetic.
