Well, not "fake" per se, but it was a comedy show, rather than a serious program.

Not seen in the UK but Ireland's Late Late Show had some very uncomfortable moments, mainly due to guest being inebriated. The two that stand out in my mind were an interview with (no real surprise) Oliver Reed. Another one that was very uncomfortable was with noted Scottish psychiatrist, R D Laing.

Gay Byrne, who hosted the show from 1962 to 1999, was, in my opiinion, one of the best TV presenters ever but because most of his career was spent in Ireland, he is mostly unknown in the UK. In his early career he worked for Granada TV and was the first person to interview The Beatles on TV.
