Back onto the main show, did anyone share my amazement when that Midnight Blue shed RS2000 with rear quarter damage made £26,250? ![eek](/inc/images/eek.gif)
I couldn't get 10% of that for my straight 1978 Venetian Red one in 1984.![cry](/inc/images/cry.gif)
That was about 3 or 4 series back....!!![eek](/inc/images/eek.gif)

You'll need to go back about 40 pages for the discussion about that

Although the Beetle resto cost a lot of money it was in the ballpark of what I was expecting, the motorbike on the other hand, what did she actually do other than clean the carb, remove the magneto and apply some stickers ? I can't get my head around why you'd send a vehicle like that to someone with absolutely no experience of working on them

I had to have a chuckle at the segments with her working on the bike, as all through them I was thinking what if this had been one of the Henry Cole programmes with Allen Millyard attempting to get it to start?. (I'm not in any way meaning this in a sexist context btw)Edited by Richard-390a0 on Friday 24th May 11:00

You can see why Mumbles has left. He can't defend the indefensible. However, the end goal for him is to make a profitable programme. He on the ninth (or is it tenth?) season of B&C, so he must be doing something right.

As has been said time and again if you pay someone to do a restoration you rarely make the money back if you sell it . Doesn't matter what the value of the car is the labour rates are pretty much the same just the number of hours will vary.
At least this programme gives a near realistic cost of restorations .
Now you know why cars from high end classic retailers cost so much . That Beetle would be near the restoration price if retailed in a trendy showroom in a sunny part of Europe near the sea .
Watched/despaired at last nights prog.
I agree with Dave and Paul, no love for any of the beetles. That one had been "restored" before. They went in and did various repairs but admitted at the end that it wasn't perfect or they'd have spent more ££.
The old bike was OK, not my cup of tea either but the lady who did the work at least sounds like an enthusiast rather than a repair garage. Agree with the poster above though, Milly would have been a better choice.

I agree. She seemed idea for the CBR resto, but sending a pre-war bike to her, and one so unusual and rare, just shouted "we don't care about the restoration, as long as it makes good telly" attitude.
The bit I didn't get about the last programme. Based on the programme timeline as shown, Derek gave an appraisal of the Beetle prior to the auction being shown. Unless my understanding of his views were wrong he seemed to me to be saying "Run away, run away!"
If that was genuinely given prior to the auction then no sympathy from here. Though it was an object lesson demonstrating that it's possible to buy something which rapidly turns into a bodged up nightmare.

Just watched the Karmann Beetle. Am .i the only person who thought those modern alloys looked absolutely hideous & completely wrong for the car? If they are going to spendi that much money on it, why not get a set of period wheels?
And that the bonnet was fitted with panel gaps that you could put your hand through?

They were a modern version of a popular period Beetle wheel, so entirely in period lookswise. I was talking about it the day after with a mate who is a bit of a Beetle nerd, as I remembered seeing similar on Beetles back in the day. Can't remember the name he called them now, began with a L...sounded like Lemmy from Motorhead ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
