Film start time is 5:30 tonight.

When will the film actually start?

I'll say just before 1800, normally have about 20-30 minutes of ads when I've been.

Thanks, that sounds about right.

The show finishes at 19:30 and the film is 90 mins long, so working backwards it looks like 18:00.

Now I remember why I rarely go to the cinema.

You can bank on 25 minutes at least, sometimes slightly more.

Always best to bear that in mind when considering your timings.

If its a popular film i have to be at my local Vue 20 mins before the ads start to get a decent seat unless you pay for upgraded seating.

Think most cinemas are just as bad, especially for a new film.
I hate going into a cinema when it's dark so always suffer the ads, although the trailers are normally good to watch

30 minutes for Gravity at my local Vue on Saturday. I was quited relieved after reading that some people had had 40+ minutes of adverts and trailers!

We saw Gravity at an Odeon IMAX and there were precious few adverts, around ten minutes.
Format issues keeping the trailers down?

The film Gravity started at 6 so 30 minutes of ads.

There were only about 6 other people in the cinema...I'm not surprised when the seats were £18 each. We nabbed some VIP seats which were quite nice.

It was a great film though, glad i saw Sandra Bullock on the big screen in 3D.

On the plus side, as the trailers nowadays show pretty much anything worth seeing in a film. you pay for 1 and can skip 6 more!

Trailers I don't actually mind of the basis if I'm at the cinema I might want to see what else is incoming.
It's the fecking TV adverts that have now found their way on to the big screen that grip my st. Bloody Ant'n'Dec pushing Morrisons Christmas.......feck right off.

my local cinema is cineworld, its at least 30 minutes of ads.

me and the other half went to see bad grandpa a few weeks ago, it was meant to start at 7:20 we got in at 7:10 to get decent seats it was 8 before the film started.

I dont mind the trailers as sometimes ill go to see a film after seeing a trailer.

its the tv ads, also by the time you have bought a slushie etc for the movie its finished or melted by the time the film starts.

Sometimes the ads are that long I forget what film I'm there to see.

I like to go to the late showings as much less adverts. Reckon it'll be because they'll be wanting to get closed up quickly. Use imax at metro centre and a cineworld I think it is in boldon and both do the same.

I've got an unlimited card for Cineworld, you can guarantee the film will not start until at least 30 mins after time stated, downside of going in 5 mins before film is you have a poor choice of seats

This really annoys me, last time I went to the cinema I paid nearly £40 for 4 tickets. I was then subjected to 20-30 minutes of adverts. Why?

Vue tends to be 30 mins. Even for kids films, which is a piss take.

25 mins after official start time is where I aim for.
