The "Do we need Dads?" thread
Discussion
I watched it. I had a lot of sympathy with the white dad as he was obviously trying very hard to make things work and see his children, only to be torpedoed by his cow of an ex-wife at every turn. However, I did get the impression we weren't being told the whole story about the two of them. She was clearly still very, very bitter about the breakup (hence the comments like "I don't need a man" now and again), and was blatantly using the kids as a tool in her little power games with him.
I noticed that the presenter said they'd been separated for four years, but the littlest of the four kids couldn't have been more than three or four.

TBH I thought the programme was pretty sh!te - judging from the title I was expecting some analysis, debate, maybe even some informed (ie researched) opinion. Obviously I should haven't raised my hope so high (it was the BBC after all) as it just seemed like another type of reality TV to me.

I'm tired of this st, and a bunch of girls are like:
"You don't need no man
to help you raise no child."
Please shut the fk up with the bullst. Yeah, you can do it without a man, but that don't mean it's to be done.
st, you could drive a car with your feet if you want to, that don't make it a good fking idea.

I thought it was pretty good, actually - plenty of time for it all to breathe rather than being stuffed with "earlier we saw" crap. It reminded me of those old A to B programmes that stared the whole reality thing off, they were so clever. We only got to see what they edited which can always have a bias - I would have liked to known more about the backgrounds and why there was so much bitterness though. The black couple appeared to start off well but the women didn't look so good at the end of the prog - he was struggling to pay both mortgages, got to the point of reposession and she decides to get an Au Pair when he finds a new way to finance things! I was really hoping the white bloke would shag his ex-wife's Au Pair...
Just managed to catch this.
White guy was a bit of a tool, but clearly had his heart in the right place. Thought they gave his ex a far too easy ride - the shot of him weeping after she'd refused him the kids in the morning reshown just after she'd lied through her teeth about him even being there being the only exception.
The whole programme was just very sad and way too close to home.
