Harry Potter - Worth seeing in 3D?
Discussion
I'd probably have chosen 2d as well, but my daughter booked us tickets for the 3d show and I was very glad she did. It's not the usual in your face theme park 3d with things jumping out of the screen at you, but more Avatar 3d adding depth to everything.
As for the glasses, I don't know what the hang up is. Everyone else is wearing them and it's dark as well - it's hardly like anyone's going to point and laugh cos you look like a spacker. Besides, after a couple of minutes you forget you're wearing them anyway.

Not worth it. I saw it in 3D, there is very little 3D in it and what is there adds very little to the experience. Also you have to wear the annoying glasses.
Save your money-wish I had.
Not seen the film, but I don't think the point of modern 3D is to have things pointed out the screen at you, I prefer it when the 3D is used to provide a feeling of depth and realism to a scene. I hate it when movies do the "Sword comes out the screen" (Pirates 4), or "Yo Yo comes out the screen" (Journey to the centre of the Earth).Save your money-wish I had.
I'm now more likely to watch the 3D version as I expected it to be a competition to see how many times the wand can poke out the screen, or a broomstick can come rushing towards the audience.
I work in the TV industry and have been exposed to both 'good' and 'bad' 3D material.
Harry Potter was one of the very best 3D movies I've seen. The depth of field was perfect, just noticeable but not too extreme. The focus was excellent and the backgrounds and foregrounds were in exactly the right place. It was properly filmed in 3D rather than just converted afterwards like Clash Of The Titans for example. Unlike other films I've seen in 3D there wasn't any opportunity for it to make you feel sick or anything.
I'd say it was well worth seeing in 3D.

It's not a hang-up, more a case of if it's 3D just for the sake of some 3D jumping out at you from time to time I'd prefer not to have to wear them for 2 hours. For me they can "get in the way" of the enjoyment of the film if not done correctly.MarJay said:

I can't stand 3D movies, they hurt my eyes and I normally find things out of perspective and distracting from the film itself. I had free tickets to Harry Potter in 3D so thought why not, I was amazed, the 3D was just perfect, didnt hurt my eyes and everything was in perspective, it was the best 3D I've seen in a film so far, nice and subtle, not IN YOUR FACE style

I only tend to watch films in 3D if they were designed to be in 3D, so it uses it to it's full potential a la Avatar. So will be seeing HP in 2D me thinks.
Harry Potter WAS designed to be in 3D, and IMO it pulled it off just as well as Avatar did, if not a bit better. It's a st film, but the 3D is very well done.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
