I'm normally not a fan of "colourised" black and white footage but Jackson has taken this process to a whole new level. Not only has he added colour, he has also digitally cleaned up the picture quality, removed the graininess and the scratches and smoothed out the frame rate to make the movement more realistic and less jerky.
It would be nice to see some other old footage get the same treatment.

I've booked to see this at the cinema. Despite it being considerably more expensive to see than the average big-budget Hollywood blockbuster. I do hope that at least some of the profits are pumped into "good stuff" rather than lining the pockets of executives and shareholders.
One thing that is REALLY freaking me out is the poster advertising it...
...particularly the chap (Sergeant) front left. Save for the uniform and rank, he's the spitting image of a chap I served with myself. The resemblance is uncanny.
I think a lot of people are going to be shocked and surprised at how powerful this "remastered" footage is going to be. Those soldiers from 100 years ago are no longer going to be awkward, grainy, jerky images belonging to a far off time. They're going to look like your brother, cousin, son, or mate from work.
Serving myself, I've taken part in many Remembrance parades. But even when you're on parade remembering your own fallen comrades, and with those who came back with devastating injuries, it's still not fully "real" in many ways. The whole 'Act of Remembrance' started in honour of the fallen from the 14-18 War. This film, I feel, should make those men feel far more real and relevant to a modern society that sometimes forgets what it owes to past generations.
Now if only this film gets shown to those who need reminding the most...

The is pretty amazing, the still looks a bit cartoony but the moving images are brilliant.
There are a couple of parts that I find a bit "off", I can't put my finger on exactly why, e.g the footage from the BBC clip 1:15 - 1:27. Understandable, as this wasn't filmed in colour in the first place. Still a great project and I'll give it a watch.
