If anything, I thought the programme was justifying the needs to cut costs and the difficult decisions that need to be made.

I agree, even though I have not seen the programme.
I saw the woman on the news, she certainly didn't do herself any favours, and as said, when it comes down to justifying yourself face to face with somone on the same level it cannot be done.
