Sky F1 channel to become Sky Darts in the off season
Discussion
I'm pretty sure I heard this correctly, but on the Sky F1 coverage just now they mentioned that Sky F1 will become Sky Darts after the last race of the season, but will be back as Sky F1 in January.
I guess it makes sense - they probably found it quite hard to fill the schedule during the off season last year, but I do hope it isn't a sign of them losing interest in F1 a little.

LoL You've been mugged mate!
Sadly, no."The channel will replace Sky Sports F1 from 0600 Monday 14 December to Tuesday 5 January and all live sessions will also be simulcast on Sky Sports 1, 2 or 3"

To be fair it is better than running endless replays of 15 minute shows and the odd race re-run.
It makes a lot of sense. REALIST123 said:
That's it? 3 weeks around Xmas and new year? Should be quite easy to avoid without any pain. As said there's little F1 worth watching between races anyway.
I confess that I didn't really twig that it was only 3 weeks. D'Oh. Teppic said:
My concern is that when it comes back they see it as an excuse to remove it from the legacy HD pack and make everyone take the full Sky Sports pack in order to access it.
Yes, that would be pretty awful if they did that. I'd have to review my entire Sky contract, and perhaps use Day Passes for F1 races and not bother with qualifying or Free Practise sessions, which would be a shame. Sky Sports F1 is currently demonstrating what it *could* be, as it's currently showing live coverage of the Race of Champions.
So it could so easily be "Sky Motorsports". The only trouble is that if they did do that, then it would be very justifiable to then absorb it into the full Sky Sports package which obviously we don't want.

Maybe this will be the switch to Virgin as we can get the 200mb broadband thrown in and save money to boot...
If you switch from a Sky Legacy to Virgin you will need a full Sky Sports subscription to watch the F1 channel. And if you then decide to go back to Sky you will also need a full Sky Sports subscription to watch the F1 channel. As others have pointed out, it's only for a few weeks.

I agree that it should just be Sky Motorsport and they could have loads of stuff on there, maybe even a few motoring shows, there are plenty on Youtube they could show such as EVO etc. Proper car geek stuff rather than TG style entertainment.
Yes, that would be great. Trouble is that Sky would be entirely justified in bringing such a channel into the Sky Sports package. A colleague at work, who is also into F1 and also on the Sky Legacy HD package, found the channel blocked, inaccessible, and demanding £17-odd pcm to re-activate. Phoned up Sky with his sleeves rolled up bruising for a rumble (and concerned that I would be in for similar) and it turned out to be a hiccough and they reinstated it forthwith. I confess that when he told me the anecdote I interrupted him and asked him to cut to the chase and tell me if I was losing F1 too.
So, phew.
As I said to him, there are many of us on this thread who are also hanging onto the Legacy HD package through hell and high water to just keep the F1.
