OK, so, we have many old franchises from the 70's and 80s. They weren't franchises back then, they were just stories people wanted to tell, and they were good; so good that many people watched them over and over and had fond memories of them and would watch them again many years later. So popular stuff makes money and a combination of genuinely wanting to experience those characters and situations more and companies wishing to make an "easier" and "expected" buck leads to going back to the the well; once, twice, thrice! And maybe more.
Until we get to the point of ultra saturation, when we are presented with a product that superficially resembles what went before in a hollow way but has not the heart, story or magic of what made the originals great.
Most modern films look good, great effects, with the great effects being used hide the vacuous content.
A beautifully garnished cack sandwich, it glistens and sparkles and makes the long slowly acquired fanbase drool like a priest in a playground. Conning only long enough to let the fans mash their gums into it as the disgusting cack oozes around their lips before they notice how the taste makes them feel. biggrin

Which is the biggest offender of recent years? I had also considered; Robocop (reboot was too long ago), Charlie's ANgels (not old or important enough), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (revamp was too long ago), Die Hard (again too long), Rambo (fans seem to like the latest one), Rocky (Creed was actually rather good). Are there anymore 70s/80s properties that turned into long running series I overlooked?

As for the above, I know there's also; Prometheus, Solo, Last Jedi and Terminator Genysis, but just went with the latest in the franchise.

As one said, spin the wheel make the deal!
