It was never going to do too well against a full size car, but the picture in the article really shows just what a disadvantage you are at behind the wheel:

On the phone and no seatbelt, what a moron. I feel sorry for the 4 children.

Sympathies for the husband and children, but this foolish bint just highlights why you shouldn't use your phone whilst driving, as well as not wearing a seat belt.

(And also highlights the reason why you shouldn't own a G-Whizz, proof if there ever was that no matter how 'Green' or 'Eco-friendly' you are, you need a large, metal crumple zone around you when you make rapid contact with something!)

Two things that should be illegal:

driving on a handheld phone; and

the G-Wizz.

One already is illegal. That the other is not is solely down to wrongheaded green politics.

"Tubular steel space frame with side impact beams, energy absorbing bumpers collapsible steering column. Full EU Type Approval for L7e quadricycle. Safety package, frontal impact crash tested at 25 mph."

So, up to 25mph you might walk away. That's comforting.

It's all about the impact speed though.

If both cars are travelling at 12.5mph, then you're fine, otherwise it's bye-bye world and watch your carbon footprint rapidly expand as the emergency service vehicles come to brush up the mechano pieces...

Did anyone else read that and think it sounded like the husband was saying; "Well there you go, thats what happens if you don't wear your seatbelt and are on the phone..".

He seemed to come across very nonchalant..

Maybe its just me.

Dr Miguel, who ran to the scene when he could not contact his wife on her Blackberry, said: 'It is a lovely little car for pottering around London. It is very much not the vehicle to have a collision with another car in because they are obviously very flimsy.'
People do not "potter about" London. The last sentence defies comment.

Terrible for the children.

Only if you drive into something. From the pictures, it looks like it was hit from the side and literally disintegrated.

There's one of these things living near me, with a Christian fishy badge thing on the back of it...

They must know the end is nigh...hehe

To be honest, the seat belt alone may have saved her as the car enclosure doesn't look too bad.

Very tragic and I feel for the family, I only hope their loss encourages others to belt up and not use amobile while driving.

The G-Whiz is not a car, its a Quad.

While I would never buy one I'd rather crash in a G-Whiz than on a traditional style Quad, or Bike for that matter.

I wouldn't.

I would rather be thrown clear than split in two.

Or ghosty the quad if you can see the accident happening.

*Fond memories of ghostying my bike down my drive..* hehe

There's a lot of hate for the G-whizz but I'd guess it's no better in a crash than a Caterham 7

While I agree 100% with where you are going that we should not crow too much about unsafe cars a caterham is quite a sturdy little car considering
