An Indian couple have had their children taken away by Norwegian social workers because they were feeding them with their hands and sleeping in the same bed as them.
Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya lost custody of their three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter eight months ago after authorities branded their behaviour inappropriate.
The drastic measure led to intervention from the Indian government who contacted Norwegian authorities in an a desperate attempt to return the children.

It's bad enough that the cretins did this in the first place. Now they are refusing to give the kids back, despite pleas from the Indian government. How fked in the head do you have to be? I'd like to think there's more to that story and they haven't torn a family apart because of a lack of understanding of cultural differences, but knowing quite a few social workers, there probably isn't.
Two social workers are walking down a street, they hear moaning from an alleyway and investigate. They find a man lying on the ground, he is battered and bruised, his clothes soaked in blood. One looks to the other and says "Whoever did that really needs help." They walk on.

Remember this story next time someone tells you what a socialist paradise Norway is.
About 30 years ago the Norwegian govt censored the cartoon movie "Dumbo" .. because some of the elephants were dancing topless - which was deemed offensive and immoral for children. You couldnt make it up.
2 things:
1. It's the Daily Mail, FFS! How can anyone believe anything printed in that piece of shyte excuse for a rag?? I know, I know this is PH and the DM is the bible... Silly me.
2. The Indian authorities should perhaps be intervening in the millions of Indian children roaming about the rubbish dumps and cess-pits of India before getting involved in stuff like this...

after reading several sources both from India and Norway it seems that is it...
the sleeping in the same bed and eating with the hands
Apparently Norway's social services are quite strict too.
One way to reduce immigration I suppose, would put people off living there if they think they might have their kids taken off them.the sleeping in the same bed and eating with the hands

Ok. But why shouldn't Norway expect Norwegian citizens to grow up in a Norwegian manner?
If you live in a country where people do not generally eat with their hands then these parents are disadvantaging their children and ultimately segregating them from their society.
I recal at prep school a kid turning up and trying to eat crumble and custard with his hands. He also wiped his arse with his hands He was a fking idiot but far less so than his moronic parents who were comprehensively failing to raise their child appropriately.
There will be more to this story but even at its most elemental level I wholly agree with their actions.

On the other hand, it's controlled with rampant, but well financed uber-Socialism. ..and the roads are shyte.
I guess its simple...when in rome do as the romans do.
If you are indian and want to practice an indian way of life...its all good as long as its acceptable in the country you live in. It seems that style of living is not acceptable in Norway.
And being Indian myself...Im willing to bet a tenner it was parents saving money by renting a small flat instead of spending money on decent accomodation. And as for eating with hands...it is most likely to be a case of not encouraging the use of cutlery and eating like they are in India without even thinking how their kids would behave in a Norwegian society.
I guess they and all indians learnt a lesson now...I hope.

Most of the population are hugely fit so don't have a lot of the same health concerns as a lot of the world has.
Not sure that Scandinavian stereotype still holds, looking at their obesity statistics:http://www.fhi.no/eway/default.aspx?pid=238&tr...

I agree. The point to living in Norway is that it is Norway, if you want to live like your in India then bloody move to India. If you live in a country where people do not generally eat with their hands then these parents are disadvantaging their children and ultimately segregating them from their society.

All the Indian people I know in the UK/Europe live as 'normal' British families would. Okay, they eat Indian food a bit more often and the central heating is generally turned a few clicks higher. Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
