When is Bob Crow going to play his hand?
He already has I think. Reading the Standard on the tube home he has today requested his members "work to rule" from Friday onwards. I assume this means that should someone have to do a tiny bit of overtime because of a brief signal delay or similar then the union dictates that they should just walk off the job regardless of if there is anyone there to cover/take-over.No links as I'm on a mobile & its a pain in the arse but looking at the Evening Standards website or googling should provide information.
Didn't actually think it was possible to detest anyone I've never met till I discovered Crowe.
Total .
Let's also not forget that any workers would be paid that overtime so its not as if they would lose out in any way.
And the fact they have already secured bonuses in four figures for essentially doing their jobs over the coming month.
That clearly is not good enough.
Crowe is essentially holding the country to ransom (yet again) even though all his demands have been met. The Govt really need to.take action against this sort of thing, am rapidly losing faith in Cameron et al.

Oh, any all the cleaning staff on the DLR have been told to strike from Friday to Sunday and the chosen picket line is outside Stratford station.
Wonder why that particular place was chosen...
I know it's a terrible PH cliche but my piss is boiling. Cannot put into words how much I detest the man.
I thought these "bonuses" we're an inducement not to strike etc hidden under "we'll have to up the service because of volumes"? Work to rule is fine. As long as you expect to be paid the same way.
About time we let any and all of these people strike. Let's see how much public support they get. Shovel all the pay saved and bonus provisions into laying on buses etc to lessen any impact. Use the wondrous Olympic Lanes for them.
Services this week thus far have been so bad they need contingency anyway.

Don't get the hate for Bob Crowe, his job his to secure maximum earnings and benefits for his workers and he's bloody good at it. Main issue I have with him is living in a council house on his salary.
The anger should be aimed not at him but at weak-willed politicians who allow him to get away with it.

To an extent I agree with your point, although I reserve my right to retain one of the small pleasures I have in life - sticking pins and knives into my (metaphoric) Bob Crowe voodoo doll.Clearly, this is a 70's throwback situatiuon of unions creating a monopoly of labour with which they extract excessive and unfair (because let's face it, the workers are not hard done by) remuneration.

His job means the only real respect due to him is from the workers he represents. The anger should be aimed not at him but at weak-willed politicians who allow him to get away with it.
Meanwhile his actions impact the millions of people every day that actually pay his wages - his customers.
He is the worst example of an increasingly poor attitude to customer service in this country. Shining a light on that through the Olympics might not be a bad thing long term.
Also, with ref to the people he represents, all he is doing is accelerating the need to automate his beloved trains. Like Scargill he is winning battles, but will lose the war. He won't give a st - as you note he earns a lot of money and if his house is anything to go by he has low outgoings. His disciples won't be so lucky.
Contempt is also aimed at the people allowing him to operate this way. It shouldn't deflect from him being a nasty piece of work though.

But that's not what he does is it?The anger should be aimed not at him but at weak-willed politicians who allow him to get away with it.
What he does is use is members for political reasons, damaging governments he doesn't want and milking those that need his votes.
God help us if his puppet Milliband ever gets into power, Crowe and his cronies will have a field day to make the Blair/Brown years, when the unions received millions, look like austerity.

I should imagine tube drivers on 45k a year with 35 (?) days holiday don't feel all that used. What he does is use is members for political reasons, damaging governments he doesn't want and milking those that need his votes.

I didn't say he deserved respect, just that I don't get all the hate directed at him. I don't think the acceleration you describe is really that legitimate, it's 2012 and it's still not happened even though it probably should have. It's inevitable it will come relatively soon so his remit is to milk as much as is possible for his soon to be redundant workers.Meanwhile his actions impact the millions of people every day that actually pay his wages - his customers.
