It's best that a celebrity has a cause and in this wkers corner its banning carrier bags.
Throughout the overlong interview on Channel 4 all I could think of was of several good uses for a carrier bag, ironically these involved suffocating Mr Irons in one.
I can't think of anything actor wise this flouncy lovey wker has done that is any good, Brideshead went downhill when Sebastion left and it became Jeremy centric and he was totally st in that Die Hard film

He was alright in Die Hard 3. Lol lets be fair now.

But as for last night's programme. A combination of a lost remote and being far too tired to get up off the sofa I watched the overly long debate and thought what utter bks. I laughed when the woman said a sack cloth was next to useless for carrying dog poo in.

err Die Hard 3 Simple Simon Says ? I think I had started to lose interest and missed the bit about the dog poo bit (another use for it springs to mind now again involving Mr Irons and his letterbox ) One thing I would say is that he looked good for his age in a sort of "civil servant or geography teacher type way" but then as an A...C...T...O...R he will do fk all anyway so its hardly like he has much stress hence having time to head up " the ban the carrier bag" campaign

Saw him once at the barbican with the RSC he could have done with that bag over his head so he didnt soak the audience in spittle when leaning out in chains towards the end. smile

May be a great actor but he is a total fkwit where this stuff is concerned!
Hope they don't have a gift store there giving away carrier bags poor Jeremy will be flouncing in their with a banner denouncing them/ appearing in a play for his fee............delete as appropriate

Maybe i'm just thinking about the film on a whole. I'd erased that simple simon says st from memory.

Basically the other matey who to be fair was doing a pants job of counter arguing came up with the fact most people reuse carrier bags in a way so they are being recycled albeit for carrying football boots, bin bags and picking up dog poo. JI then replied that you can carry football bags in a cloth sack and the host pointed out it would be a bit pointless using a cloth sack for removing dog poo. To which he conceded.

I really should have got up and looked for the channel changer.

I don't understand why actors are held in such esteem that they have these platforms, nor why there's an assumption that we want to listen to them.

I mean why are they the ones interviewed when a film comes out? Their contribution to a film is no more important than the editors, sound teams, special effects teams and writers and I don't see much evidence that being an actor automatically makes you more charismatic or interesting.

That's easy; most people are very stupid.

I am in favour of banning carrier bags. We should make prisoners sew cotton bags out of recycled cloth and if they refuse to work, shoot them. I still think JI is tt though biggrin

Whenever anyone talks on an issue there's always an assumption someone wishes to listen, at least actors have an inbuilt audience. biggrin

Actors are more important than editors, sound teams, special effects teams and can be sometimes more important than writers. The actor/writer/director thingy is a leapfrog act. The actor/writer/director triumvirate can lift a film, the others can't, they can make it passable.

It's 5p for a carrier bag in Wales which is enough for me to try and remember to take my own. I'm always a bit surprised when the checkout staff give me a bag for free in England now.

They don't always in fact some of the staff (ususally younger ones) ask you in such a way as to make you feel almost guilty (I Don't)

laugh Fair point.

(but I meant an assumption on the part of the media that they feel they must convey these messages to us. Lots of people would like to shout their opinions on things but actors are uniquely given opportunities to air them, no matter how ignorant they are).

I suppose there are always crossovers when it comes to credit / blame on all these areas but on the whole I disagree with that. Music can make a good film brilliant (e.g. Star Wars, Kick Ass) just as poor editing can tarnish a well written and performed film (e.g. Tinker Tailor).

  • examples are my own opinion wink
