Sony Kowtowing to North Korea
Discussion
Sony Films are pulling the release of the film 'The Interview' due to L'il Kim's hacker attack.
Is this a lily-livered, knee jerk reaction from a poorly run company or a smart move from the marketing dept?

When you look at all the e-mails that have been released showing their executives' comments about some of Hollywood's biggest stars, halting this movie is the least of Sony's problems.
Perhaps the way they see it though is that losing $75 million is nothing compared to the loss that could be borne if the parent company was attacked in Japan.
But key to the decision was that certain cinema chains refused to show the film.
Interesting times ahead.

I dont remember any bother around "Team America: World Police", though Wikipedia says:
"Kim Jong-il, a noted film buff,[24] never commented publicly about his depiction in Team America: World Police, although shortly after its release North Korea asked the Czech Republic to ban the film; the country refused saying that North Koreans had been rebuffed in their effort to undermine the Czech Republic's post-Communist era freedom.[19] The filmmakers acknowledged this in a DVD extra and jokingly suggested he sing "I'm So Ronery.""

I saw this on the news this morning, and one twitterer on the subject said: "all this has done is ensure the film will be seen by many more than otherwise would have done".
I think this is very true. I hadn't heard of the film, or knew Sony were making it, but now I want to watch it.
Some say Sony have bowed to the hackers, I think they have played a blinder, when this gets released on Blu-Ray it will be huge.

Hopefully this is just a delaying tactic while several intelligence services around the globe coordinate their kit ready for the 'Sony reconsiders and changes it's mind' date in the new year, so they can find the source of the hack.
This is, after all, a major threat of industrial espionage.

Yep, tempted to agree with that.I think this is very true. I hadn't heard of the film, or knew Sony were making it, but now I want to watch it.

Sony could well be playing the long game here.
