There was a long Secret History documentary on it on Channel 4 "Hitlers Hidden Drug Habit" a while back it might be "On Demand". Yes he was off his tits on a cocktail of Barbs and Speed as were a lot of the European population in the 20s and 30s, at least anyone who could afford to visit a decent doctor with pain or in need of a pick me up, put me down.

The Kamikaze pilots were fed the gear as well... and most of the US soldiers in Vietnam were off their faces, I think (but I'm not sure) some kind of strong speed based stimulant is still given to fighter pilots these days who fly long sorties during combat, adderall or such like.

Yup, quite a lot of the biographical accounts from German soldiers in WWII mention them being issued with, and taking, amphetamines. Bit like Cocaine and Heroin were available over the counter in times past, but, funnily enough, not anymore.
