This seems a bit harsh, four years in prison for chasing down a thief. Thief not charged with theft. Must be more to this?

Probably because 2+tonne vehicle against squishy person is a bit OTT.

If he'd ran after him and given him a slap ,court wouldn't have been so harsh on him.

reading the additional information i think it is a good result all round. couple of young scrotes get a fright that "may" change their ways. older scrote beyond redemption is off the street for a while.

Very true, and very worrying.

If the Police forces budgets continue to be cut and they no longer have the manpower to deal with crimes, which IS happening, this will be the result.

If the public feel the Police are no longer interested/dealing with crimes, eventually people will feel the need to protect them selves and their property in any way they feel they have to.

Of course running someone down with a car is very unreasonable.
