Asda has bought Netto's 193 British stores for £778m, strengthening its position as the country's second biggest food retailer.

Netto launched in Britain in 1990. Figures this week showed it had a 0.7pc share of the UK grocery sector, but the discounters have seen previous stellar growth levels grind to a halt since the end of the recession.

Claus Juel-Jensen, managing director of Netto, said: "We have substantial opportunities for growth in Scandinavia and northern Europe and believe that the time has come to focus our efforts on the development of our business in these countries."

Probably something to do with most Asda customers smelling of sour milk and year old body odour as they shop in their vomit stained white vests showing every ripple in their beer guts, grey "trackie" bottoms showing off more arse than hiding it, and flipflops whilst screaming at their army of promising little footballers who have the discipline of a pack of baboons.

That kind of covers it :-)

Oh gee thanks, I will remember to make more of an effort in future, I want to look like that! I'm not a slob, but I am not going through the effort of getting dressed up smart, with a face full of warpaint for an early morning dash to Asda.

This must have been a fairly snap decision given that they have only just finished building a new store in Cannock due to open the 22nd of July.

ASDA is truly terrible - and it is just as the guy above described it.

Sainsburys is 100% better.
Well I'm a bit stuck for choice here, I won't shop in Tesco on principle (unless the MIL is with us and has her staff discount card), Sainsburys here is shocking, Morrisons too far away, so that just leaves Asda, I find it better to go in at 6 in the morning, while it's nice and quiet and most of the shelves are full.

ASDA is an awful shopping experience but it is awesomely cheap. Also, mine has a McDonalds in it.

The only problem is with "aisle thinkers". People are prone to stopping suddenly when they see an item they might want, and it takes 10-15 seconds for them to remember what to do next (take item from shelf, put item in trolley)..

Yes, in theory. Being a normal person I am happy to shop anywhere when I need something.

That said I mostly use Ocado for household shops, but only because of the higher quality and convenince, nowt to do with who uses it. I really couldn't care less who else shops somewhere. In fact if there's lots of cheap people there it's probably a good sign, as it means I'm getting more bang for my buck!

Quite.

speedchick you're being quite stupid. It will make no difference if you do or don't. You're mugging yourself off. Not them.

certainly not, the quality of products at Lidl & Aldi is on a par or often superior with similar products at Sainsbury's, Tesco & Waitrose. They are different brands in different packaging. I've had several problems with things from Waitrose & Tesco but never from Aldi & Lidl. It's probably due to the fact that they are German owned/run compaies and have a different culture to those in the UK regarding consistent quality. Same applies to most German made products including automotive.
