I don't see what all the fuss is about.

The wedding is not a proper state wedding as the cost of the ceremony and reception is being paid for by the families and not the Treasury, therefore, they are free to invite who they like.

However, the costs of providing security for the event are being picked up by the Government. Blair and Brown are not being snubbed but it is just a perfectly sensible decision based on the reality that millions of people would love to see them dead.

It seems like a snub to me. The two most recent 'leaders' of the country not invited to the future King and Queens wedding? You just know they'll be fuming about that....hopefully.

Like it.

I would have expected Bliar to have turned down an invite anyway. After all, as Middle East Peace Envoy, surely he would be fairly busy at the moment. I'd expect to see him in the media a lot, meeting people on all sides in the conflicts in the middle east.

Oh, he hasn't been seen for a while? Why would that be? Could it be that it's a sham job that allows him lots of time off for the dinner party circuit?

If I was William and Kate, I wouldn't want a possible future war criminal at my wedding either. It will be enough work looking after his racist grandad. hehe

Nothing to do with a snub, it is to do with titles.

However the right media are making the most of it.

There's no reason to invite Brown - all the other former PM's listed actually won an election to become PM rather than getting it as a result of a backroom deal. Blair won't be there because HM the Q has impeccable taste and dislikes his odious wife immensely. biggrin

clap

The 'odious wife' used to make a big point of disrespecting the monarchy anyway so it really is no surprise that the BLiars didn't get an invite....

Great news, I hope they are seriously pissed off.

Only bad thing is that if there is a massive terrorist attack and most of the congregation is wiped out.
These two pricks will be available to help rebuild the infrastructure! Were screwed.

John Major and Mrs T both hold the order of the garter which has something to do with why they are invited

Well Bliar would only get one "for services to backhanded defence contracts" and Winky's would be "for services to Brighthouse".

C nts.

no-one from labour should be allowed there - theyre against the royals and the rich and so they should not want to go anyway.

As I understand it, John Major is William & Harry's guardian hence his invite.

I guess Thatcher was invited because the couple wanted to invite her.

Millipede is invited so it's not an anti-labour thing.

Ultimately, it's their wedding, they can invite who they like.

Despite the childish bigotry dished out on PH this oversight or snub is not good for our democracy. One can only imagine that the Queen is 'not amused' at this development.
The father of the groom and perhaps the happy couple themselves should be weary that in the not too distant future they could find themselves going cap in hand to a prime minister from the party that they appeared to have publicly humiliated.

I think they'll survive.

Yep, very true. As likely to get on the invite list as Col Gaddafi.... and about as attractive too!

As for Brown - he didnt get elected anyway, so not sure why he would get an invite unless its a "by default" one, but again, he hasnt necessarily won favours with the Royal family in the past, so not sure why they would get an invite....

They would be lost without a birth, death or glitzy marriage every few years to keep the public interest. They survive mainly because of the real life soap opera aspect, rather than a sincere nationwide belief in constitutional monarchy.

No, they will survive because the revenue brought into the country by asian and american tourists alone more than covers what they cost to keep.

They are a profit making asset for the country.
