selectively quoted as an utterly and terminally stupid idea.

I guess you don't have kids then.

So my daughter, worked for three years saving up to go to uni. Gets made redundant as business she worked for closed. Gets nothing from state, no JSA as too much saved up ready to go to uni.

So in your scheme as a parent I'd have to say, NO you can't come and live with us for a few months until you've found your place for uni, you'll go and have to live in a flat somewhere and if you can't find a job you'll have to spend your savings until they are gone and then I suppose the state will have to give you some benefits and housing allowance as opposedto living at home for free warm and safe in our care and under our roof.

I'm with F i F. The UK needs to force parents to live with the responsibility of bringing up stupid unemployable kids for as long as possible, rather than expecting society to pick up the pieces of their ineptitude as a parent.

I don't see any issues with a £15 minimum wage and the end of any energy production hehe
Where did you get this from?

£26,870 is the average wage, and there are 2080 work hours p/a, so 60% of average is £7.75 as it stands.

The Greens are ridiculous enough as it is. If you are twisting the figures to make them look stupid, you are only doing them a favour. If you're not, and I've missed something, my apologies, but please point me towards where they call for £15/ph.

For the record, I'd have a minimum wage of £0.01. And I'd build nuclear power stations now.

Pretty sure the average work week isn't 43 hours. Could be wrong though.

I seem to remember reading it when a chap I know was proud of voting for them and I saw the £15 per hour minimum wage smile

Edit! Just had a search and the only '15 minimum wage' in relation to the Green Party is in dollars so a website I found the info from originally must have put it on in £s rather than translating from $s smile

P.S Just found the post on the other forum, it was the Green Party chap claiming it'd be a £15/hour minimum wage hehe

~£8 minimum wage overnight (or even within 4 years) is still an absolutely absurd concept with no kind of basis in reality.
Head in the clouds, that lot. They even wanted to ban zoos! Zoos are fun!

They're a hollowed out volcano away from being super villains.

Didn't know about the zoos. I just read a Green party manifesto on animal rights. I agree with most of it, but not the zoo bit.
Shut down bad zoos!

Agreed, you'd be surprised by some attitudes.

The owner of one very well known and advertised "safari parks" heard one of his staff making a case out for a particular course of action and using animal welfare as part of the justification for the proposal.

The owner interrupted with "and since when did we give a fk about animal welfare."

If they are like this, dread to think how some others are behind the scenes.

Unsure, as at the time he had linked to the Green Party UK website when stating the £15 / hour minimum wage confused Perhaps they changed it recently when someone spotted the error? Tbh, I don't frequent their website and only looked at it when the guy linked to it.

Not that I'm too fussed, their economic policy is still a fantasy.

I am surprised by that. Which one was it?

Touched a Nerve there did I ? Despite it being the internet, I think you may just a little have over reacted.

I do have kids, one 18 (at uni) the other 15. I am sure I'm very protective, but I'm aware that with my undying and unconditional support, and love comes the responsibility to ensure they flee the nest, at the appropriate time. (20 seems about right in my own experience).

I also have 6 Nephews and Nieces aged 18 to 32.

I've met so many young people who make themselves emotionally and financially dependent on their parents. I'm all for supporting kids, but not when what they actually need is a dose of reality.

Kids who have a job, and think that £40 a week is too much to contribute towards their keep, and yet spend the rest on 'Festivals and Beer'

My own parents supported my sister for 2 years following her MSc in Soil Science, before she finally accepted she should perhaps get any job, and move on with her life.

Mind you, ask yourself why Kids leaving care at 16, have none of the support, that you or I are happy to provide our own kids and wonder why the majority end up, pregnant, drugged up, homeless, or in prison, so maybe you are right after all.

Was there any reason at all for that load of venomous tripe? I think some on PH need to calm down a bit...
