Anyone seen the picture of the armed copper running in grey with the helmet?

Different uniform to other armed police - special part of the Met or even MI5? Couldn't see POLICE on his uniform, in the picture at least.
This guy?

Security at the gates is useless , especially on a Wednesday as the gates are wide open and they have a small/light crowd barrier manned by 2 unarmed Plod to let a stream of cars in and out.
Unarmed, crikey. I'd have expected all of them to be tooled up given the location.

What a sad day.

You should of alerted the authorities!! Like a sixth sense, amazing, go straight to M15 they need you.
Don't be a tt. I'm just mentioning that we were there and had a discussion about the likelihood of an attack, and the fact one was (sadly) due.

Some pretty horrific photos on Reuters.

One particular photo looks like some one has been thrown over the bridge parapet to the lower level.
Doesn't look good at all.
That was the main picture on sky news for a short while,

edited to not draw attention to other pictures on twitter

"May's office reports that she is safe". So that's ok then, sod everyone else. FFS.
Stupid comment of the day award.
Stupid reply of the day award. You have a low ability to detect stupidity, given the level of many of the comments on this very thread alone.

Maybe I'm alone here, and I'm not ashamed to say it, but my first thought is not "I hope Theresa May is safe", it's "I hope the policeman and those poor people on the bridge are OK". A PM has a high level of personal security, not to mention the layers of security at the Palace of Westminster, and a PM expects a certain level of risk in doing the job. Tourists on a bridge, not so much.

It really wouldn't take much for the PM's office to word it compassion such as "The PM is safe, is being kept informed of the situation and her thoughts are with those that are injured" or similar. Even Merkel has said "Our thoughts are with our British friends", not "gosh, I'm glad Theresa is ok".
If you don't get what compassion is, that's ok, I feel sorry for you anyway.

The only effective means for low-sophistication attacks like this are prevention.

You can't to be frank.

A large heavy vehicle has proved to be an effective weapon when used on crowds in both Nice and Berlin. Very hard to create a situation where groups of people will not be in close proximity to roads where vehicles will be present.
Agreed. You cannot make the world 100% safe. All we can be grateful for is that by and large, there is a limit to how many people can be killed using this specific tactic.

The Reuters ones are by Toby Melville, their pro photographer. Not nice to see I agree however I'm glad things are documented in such a way. Those iconic images of 7/7 survivors with their skin peeling off, the injured Indian flight attendant who was sitting in Brussels airport etc. All tell a story that words cannot.
IMO they should at least wait until the victims' families have been informed before trying to be first to the world with photos. A picture of a dead man on the floor with no context is just sensationalism.

A pro photographer should know better. Reuters have acted disgracefully in publishing the photos.

The only thing you can do is bollards to protect buildings, but they have had those for years.
You cannot protect people.
Yes you can, my employer specialises in the design and manufacture of them. As with any event like this a depressing fact is we always get busier afterwards.

Eye witness statements starting to appear in various articles. Depressingly predictable if they are to be believed but I'm waiting for more official.

Yeah, I walked past those gates the other day and they were wide open. A couple of unarmed BIB in high-vis but that was all.

One of the key limiting tactics is to attack, head-on, the root of the extremsim within the country.

Everything pointing to it being the same person.
Sky just showed a graphic still image of someone who had clearly fallen from height - didnt look in a good condition - possibly someone who was hit on the bridge and knocked over the railings.
yes It's on their website with a wonky leg and some guy just looking at him on the floor frown What is wrong with people that they don't even bother to try to help?
May well have been beyond help unfortunately.
Think the shock of seeing such things would result in a fair few people just standing and staring.
it looked like the injured guy had been placed in the recovery position so it's likely he was breathing but not responsive so not much more anyone can do until the paramedics turn up. If the bloke standing over him has done that then he has at least given him a fighting chance.

Do you and your wife walk past Schools and ponder what carnage could ensue in the event of a terror attack? It's a bit odd really, ran out of stuff to say to each other?
