Just watched the interview and I find myself appalled, totally appalled.

She must not be able to get away with that sort of racist clap trap!

Her obe should be removed, she can’t go around saying things like that without expecting consequences it’s crap like that that causes racial tension.
I agree. She won't be punished though you can guarantee that.

This kind of race-baiting is as bad as racism. It's so counterproductive in trying to tackle racial issues.

I wonder if back in the day at school any name calling of my teacher and I’d been pinged for it would I have gotten away with it like so many MPs/Personalities by using the “I misspoke”

You’d be given short shrift that’s for sure.

Or in a pub you say something derogatory to another replaying I misspoke is likely to get you flattened

Of course she should be taken to task for this outrageous comment.

Will she?

Ha ha about as much chance of that as me playing for Real Madrid.

No one would dare, she has lost a son and built a career as a spokesperson for race relations.

Untouchable.

I'm surprised at the shock. Years ago she said that every police officer in the UK was a racist.
Fair enough she had reason to be upset at the police but she was made a Baroness after those comments, she can say what she likes, way too many scattered eggshells to call her to account.

The complete lack of condemnation of her comments from MP's is telling. And disgusting.

As probably most of already knew and this story sums it up - it's more acceptable to be racist depending who you are..............

May I ask, have all the former residents been re-housed? There must be someone on here that know the answer?

From a search on the 'net there were a few that haven't, as of April 2019. Hopefully, nobody is denied what they requested ...?

Bungalow in Kensington??

Not sure LFB knew what colour residents were, least of all in the sub let properties.

Anyway, seemed to be vast range of nationalities.

Well done...
Why is the word woman in quotation marks?

Do you have cogent evidence that Stephen Lawrence was a drug dealer?

Even if he was, does that make it OK for him to be murdered by racists?

The comments by Baroness Lawrence were very ill judged and plainly wrong. She should apologise for the comments. it is understandable that she is sensitive about racism. Her son was murdered by racists, and racism in the police force led to an inadequate investigation of the murder. But the comments about Grenfell were still wrong.

Multi-threads are of course very PH, but there is a dedicated "Lady Lawrence said a stoopid thing" thread running at the moment.

I have not checked in lately to see what the Grenfell Inquiry is up to. Initial report due any day, IIRC. I think that the appointment of a good, fair minded, but very Patrician Judge (Martin Moore-Bick) was a tin-eared choice by the almost always tin-eared Theresa May. If May had any PR nous, she would have picked a Judge such as Beverley Lang or Andrew Nicol to run the Inquiry.

“The London fire brigade’s readiness for the Grenfell Tower fire was “gravely inadequate” and fewer people would have died if it had been better prepared, a long-awaited public inquiry report into the disaster that killed 72 people has concluded.

The report into the biggest single loss of life in London since the second world war also ruled that the building had been refurbished in breach of safety regulations and that contrary to the evidence so far of the cladding panel manufacturer, Arconic, “the principal reason why the flames spread so rapidly up the building” was its aluminium composite panels and the “melting and dripping of burning polyethylene”.”
