Someone who does not know how to use a chip and pin AND uses a "cheap" car to pretend not to be loaded is not exactly going to know what life is like for the majority of the people. Not that it matters, the Govt for the last few years have been keen to ensure the rich remain very rich and the poor, well, very poor.

Would be nice to see someone like william hague as foreign secretary.
Might be better to have someone who's actually an MP?
There's nothing preventing the appointment of a lord to the cabinet(or as PM/leader of the party), other than fear of tabloid press and public opinion.

Go Rishi. I am delighted the right person for the job finally got it, and I really believe he is not the least worst candidate, he was head and shoulders the best, its just the myopic Tory members couldn't see that. I think he is a decent man with decent values and a bit of backbone and I hope he does very well.
I’m thinking similar.
I’m hopeful he’s got a sensible head on and can actually do some good.

We really need someone who can tell the truth and call it as it is.
The country is in a fragile state after covid and we need a bit of calm and adult thinking for a change.

Not on current form.

They need to bring some adults back and start to row back on appointing culture war obsessed, red meat deadbeats that should never had even a sniff of a cabinet position, they can start with Jacob...

I doubt that he really did not know what chip and pin was, how do we think he pays for stuff...does his butler do it for him?

If he knows to have a pic taken with a cheap car then I suspect he knows what life is like for the majority or it would not even have occurred to him to play it that way. The fact that he has a microphone clearly clipped to his tie makes it clear that this was an interview or public event and not just a pretend pap pic of him filling up a car.

I cannot be bothered to look up the real reason and story behind that pic but I suspect it would de-bunk that whole narrative anyway.

The rich are very good at staying rich and do not need help from the govt.

I actually did bother to look up the story, Rishi borrowed a Sainsbury workers car for a photoshoot about the cut in fuel duty...that is all it was and he commented in that story that he drove a Golf (his wifes car)

The chip and pin was actually no more of a story, he waved his card at the bar code scanner..I bet many people being filmed for TV would make some errors...even the pro's do it...they call them bloopers.

Why am I triggered by the above? I just despair that people see a headline and that becomes their reality to be repeated verbatim without any question of the validity or relevance....they conclude that "the rich get richer"

I haven't been keeping track as its just being the boris circus troup for seems like years.
Shame he's not around.
It will blow your mind when you find out who is the current MP in WH's old constituency. smile

All I want is some boring competence to get us back onto an even keel.

Hopefully, for the good of the country, Rishi can deliver that.

Quite. The very logic that Rishi doesn't know how to use a chip and pin device because he's rich is patently bks.

I would be very surprised if he didn't at least know how to pay for things. Even if he has staff to deal with groceries how about eating out or in airports?

Of course he knows, this will just be a negative slant put on things by an anti media outlet or a competitor feeding out some spin.

While I may agree "all I want" is part of the problem. Being bombarded by incompetence for years wears you down to the point where someone like Rishi seems ok.

A long time ago i sold £1500 of clothes to someone at a motorshow, plugged their card into the machine and authorised. No pin, no signature.
Very confused i learned afterwards once you spend enough money a month you get a special credit card where you don’t get checks for ‘small’ purchases.

Wouldn’t surprise me that a multi-multi-millionaire wouldn’t have a clue about things like chip and pin…

Anyway, welcome to another 2 years the same as the past 12. Do everything as cheap as possible and slowly increase taxes. Bleed the country dry whilst dumping more debt onto the yet to be born.

Yep. Expectations are now so low that he's got a fair chance of exceeding them. Then again I thought the same when Truss succeeded Boris and look how that all went down.

Do you really think he doesn't know how to use chip and pin?

Of course he does. He's wealthy, but he's not Imelda Marcos and he's not a child.

He was on a photo op and had a brain fart. Happens to a lot of people.

The cheap car was.....well a borrowed car. I don't think such events define one's political abilities.

they said someone "LIKE" - they meant someone with similar qualities to that person and the assumption is that there is an MP who is already like that.
If there was they’d be PM
