the problem is

Who do you think pays for the recovery truck to pick up an uninsured car?

The recovery operator actually pay the Police for the work.

This relies on the owner comming forward to collect his car and paying the recovery fee and storage charge..
The problem is that most of the cars seized are not collected and they end up getting crushed anyway.

The scrap value does not cover the cost of recovery, storage and disposal, especially if the value of steel falls.

If the Police do have a clamp down it could cause many recovery companies to fail or simply refuse to do the jobs.

nothing racist in noting that a certain sub section of the immigrants tend to view car insurance as something not worth bothering with...

pakistanis/Bangladeshis and Indians are vastly different people. Never confuse the two.

This is reflected in the their economic status pretty much everywhere they have chosen to settle in the world.
The Indians have made money and got on with their lives.
And the pakistanis/Bangladeshis have languished and struggled at the bottom.

There is a VERY controversial theory put forward in many cirlces about why this is so. It relates to which types of people converted to Islam during Moghul rule to escape the caste system, and during the splitting up of India, subsequently became pakistani.... and how the comparison of the relative performance of the two people today is attributable to the "quality" of their ancestor converts many years ago....
This is total and utter bullst, I know numerous rich pakistanis. The two cultures are very similar and share the same poor work ethic.

The reason pakistanis here are percieved to be poor is essentially "Mangla Damn", that's they are generally uneducated, go to India and you will find the exact same uneducated people, the difference is they haven't chosen to go and live abroad. When mangla damn was built lots of villagers emigrated to the UK as they had lost their homes, Britain needed people, these people were without homes.

Go to the USA and see pakistanis there, they are generally better educated and richer, this is because they didn't move there as they had lost there homes, more they are professionals looking for a job.

woohoo i got it right!!

the punishment for no insurance is too lenient. thats why so many people feel its ok - we'll deal with the fine rather than pay the £600+ ontop and get insured.

awwwww frown i live in one of them area's.

I was once in the police station and got talking to a solicitor as one prisoner (white - if i have to say it) was getting done for driving with no insurance.

the solicitor basically shrugged it off and told me it was 10 a penny and it was a minor thing.

I really don't see what the problem is as the Police have the ability to ANPR each car pretty quickly.

Simply set up a set of road blocks one morning, and pull over every car that doesn't have insurance or has been tagged as being unlicensed. All you have to do is create a net, and stop anyone running out the back of it.

And there you go, several hundred cars off the road that day.

Repeat once a month until the locals get the idea in their head that they need car insurance.

The guy who reckons his £500 banger is more cost effective will soon realise that after his 3rd vehicle seizure, that he's lost 3 £500 cars, has 12 points on his license and is now being prosecuted for driving whilst unlicensed.

And finally, could we please make driving whilst unlicensed a proper criminal offense. Maybe give a benefit of doubt the first time, but the second time - make it a proper punishment, and not a mickey mouse fine.

Why is that racism? Couldn't care less if they pick up whites, black, purples, yellows or pinks. I have piad ten of thousands in my driving career in car insurance, like many PHers - why should uninsured drivers decide not to pay it because "I can't afford £2k insurance on a £500 car". WELL DONT ^&*^&*^& DRIVE THEN (or buy a car you can afford to insure like the rest of us did).

But as soon as you get more then a handful of any group other then whites then they will pull out the race card so much easier to let them get on with it

So what? You can't have a city made up largely of one race, and then pulls the race card????

And so what if a disproportionate number are a different race - they should have car insurance!

Just read this from start to finish, and can't believe how many of the comments posted are exactly what I've thought for years.

Indians - Great work ethic , sociable , sucessful
pakistanis- In the 70's 80's seemed to be quite meek but the current generation leave a lot to be desired.
Chinese- I don't know a single unemployed chinese person , I never have.
Black- My opinion is slowly changing , in the 80's I had a very negative view , but over the years this has changed and I tend to reserve judgement now.

Just the opinion of an increasingly minority group member - white ( un PC strain)

Apparent government thinking: We must not tackle problem areas in case certain "minorities" are offended (sod the current majority); we must brush it under the carpet. That way, even pikeys get away with their dodgy ways and the country swirls further down the plughole..."

We watch it happening and still some people defend the nannying soft touch. Let's attach the easy targets, like people who are more likely to pay up, like for example all paid-up motorists who exceed meaningless speed limits.

I would guess that a lot of the wealthy people on Park Lane use chauffers/black cabs or park their exotica in the underground car park on Park Lane. They have no desire for their car to be spotted wink
