Apologies if I've said this before but are they aware how daft it is all looking? And if Trump wins and starts doing his dictator thing it'll get way worse.

They just needed to deal with this effectively and in line with what the justice system should be. Instead they’ve pandered to a wannabe dictator and his cronies.

I don’t actually think that the average American gives a second thought about how his/her/their country looks to the outside world. As far as they are concerned, there is nothing outside their border.

Claims now trumps lawyers stopped him going to his rally, to stop him running his mouth just before his latest trial starts

Remember the grift email with trump claiming he stormed out of court.

It never happened. Instead Judge Merchan had told him to sit down.

So he lied, bluffing it out, trying to claim he was in control, when actually he meekly sat down...

If that's the case, why are they so concerned about the "nothing" outside the borders getting inside the borders illegally?

I love the US, I visit often, I have friends there but you are largely right. It’s actually worse than you say though. Americans are raised to believe theirs is the best system in the world, it’s not, it’s not even close and few outside view the US political or legal systems with anything other than a raised eyebrow. Their democracy is poorly constructed, their judicial system is highly partisan and therefore easily bought, they just happen to be the richest and most powerful country and off the back of that try to claim superiority. It’s a wonderful blend of ignorance and arrogance, we’re no strangers to the impact of the latter here in the U.K. Our democracy is far from perfect but at least we’re safe in the knowledge that convicted criminals can’t hold office and that we kick them out on their arses for a little bit of expenses fiddling never mind the other kind of fiddling. Our judges are appointed on merit, Brett Kavanaugh wouldn’t have had a look in here because he’s hilariously under qualified, Amy C-B would have been laughed out the room for being a fringe loon. Americans created a system that left the door wide open for abusers, they’re reaping that sowing with Trump. I hope they can overcome it and see that this isn’t an isolated instance it’s just the first real test and that constitutional reform is required to prevent reoccurrence.

That’s not unique to the US. The other has been blamed by just about every society since society was formed. We’re definitely not in a position to throw any stones there.

Agree re the need for constitutional reform but they've been brainwashed into resisting any attempts to change it. As a result they're living under their own version of Sharia law, it's inviolable, rigid, and in terms of its suitability as a document to live your life by about as relevant as the Bible.

I don’t think there is anything close to the consensus needed on many of the more fundamental issues to consider further amendments.

More GOP infighting

Rep. Derrick Van Orden said he told Matt Gaetz to "kick rocks, tubby." Saying also that "Matt Gaetz is a bully. Chip Roy is a bully. Bob Good's a bully. And the only way to stop a bully is to push back hard."

Gaetz says that Van Orden is "not a particularly intelligent individual"
https://twitter.com/i/status/1782074759401943329

Then you've GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales on CNN saying Speaker Johnson will survive the motion to vacate saying “I serve with some real scumbags” then following it up with
"Look, Matt Gaetz, he paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties, Bob Good endorsed my opponent, a known neo-Nazi. These people used to walk around with white hoods at night, now they are walking around with white hoods in the daytime”

I might have guessed right. NYT claims David Pecker of AMI is going to be the first witness for the prosecution in trumps newest fraud trial
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/21/nyregion/trump-...

"Pecker could be key witness - in ways more devastating than Michael Cohen. This also indicates DA is foregrounding unlawful election influence for jurors."

Pecker's testimony should be strong proof of core allegation that the hush money scheme was geared toward influencing the outcome of the presidential election.

Edit: How many Pecker jokes will be said whilst talking about trumps affair?
