Tells working people not to ask for a payrise because of inflation.
Gives the usual suspects 650 quid to spunk away.
If as some poster alluded that people can't afford a tin of beans why isn't this being paid in vouchers for essentials like food or rent.

Politics as a popularity contest and not at all about leadership.

Thanks Rishi, I really, really don’t need the 400.
Not sure what to blow it on, something unique to celebrate another Govt universal nanny state money print.
Wealthy pensioners (the ones who benefited most from rapid asset inflation) will get 700.Not sure what to blow it on, something unique to celebrate another Govt universal nanny state money print.
Thought you ought to know.
And while everybody is talking about a few extra free logs on the fire, he’s also slipped the pension triple lock back in. Such a nice chap.

The whole thing stinks. Taking money off of companies doing well/when they feel like it is not a good policy.
VAT needed looking at IMO.
Race to the bottom…..then there’s nothing left to dredge at the bottom of the canal.
They should have funded home insulation to get demand down. Except we closed the borders and have nobody to do the work…VAT needed looking at IMO.

Without a lot more immigration, we’re going to be in major trouble. But nobody wants to hear that.
That in itself is inflationary because the numbers of people leaving did not tick up, in order to balance the numbers we would need the entire population of coventry to leave for Spain.
1 million visas and a 'tax and spend' government, what could possibly go wrong.

Apparently its going to be paid directly into your electricity account. I guess you could ask for it back if you are in credit from your provider at that point. Not sure what to blow it on, something unique to celebrate another Govt universal nanny state money print.

Got to think of somewhere else for these latest handouts.

Utterly fking stupid. Rishi has excelled himself.
Wasn't aware I voted Labour last time out - is there any difference at all between them now? Morons on both sides.
Agreed - a nice incentive for all the pensioners to vote Tory when they may have been having doubts………….Wasn't aware I voted Labour last time out - is there any difference at all between them now? Morons on both sides.
As I said earlier, the Tories derided Labour regarding the magic money tree but have managed to find their way through the forest to discover it is still there.

What's the solution then. Wasn't aware I voted Labour last time out - is there any difference at all between them now? Morons on both sides.

At this point, leaving the country for a number of years seems like the appealing solution. At least then, if you are going to finance socialist policies with rediculous levels of taxation, you can do it in better weather and cheaper beer.
Does anyone really want to live in the U.K when the pay and tax rates mirror those of a struggling Mediterranean state whilst they also approve 1 million new visas every 12 months?

If you think the govt deserves more money from corporates, then put corporation tax up. Do so on a sliding scale if you must, if you believe "excessive profits" are a problem. Overall I'm not a fan of spanking private enterprise, and as I've said many times on here, companies don't pay tax...but ignoring that for a moment, singling out one sector at one particular point in time is ridiculously unsound.
We ought to want to be encouraging high value, highly profitable companies to establish here. This hardly does that - yeah, yeah, I get what the pillock at BP said. This isn't about oil & gas though (who will be here regardless). The govt is basically saying "if we think a company is making too much profit, we're taking a chunk more of it than we already take".
Worse, it appears to be doing this based on some sort of public opinion. A poster on another thread posted up some YouGov polls in support of Johnson's guilt...maybe that's how the govt actually want to run things.
Once they have this money, they appear to be giving a sizeable amount of it to every household. Why? If there is a need to spank industry, at least target where the funds get used.
Also as I've said on here before, I am not a fan of cash benefits either. If support is needed, I'd rather see support paying for the actual items that are required. Mostly, in this case, energy and food.
And another mentioned before, take a look at VAT. Put measures in place with the big piss takers on prices (like they managed not to do on the fuel duty drop), and drop VAT totally on energy and kill it on any other essentials where it still applies. Then raise it on other categories of goods.
What they've elected to do is *exactly* what Labour were accused (rightly) of doing when last in power, and what the current morons in Labour now would do if they were in power. I didn't vote Labour last time because I didn't want that.
None of the measures Rishi has put in place today will do one iota towards seeing this country get out of the economic hole it's in. They will make it worse.

Other countries have far more, far better, far bigger private enterprises than us *and* higher corporate taxes. There’s little evidence lower corporate taxes make for a more prosperous nation. If you think the govt deserves more money from corporates, then put corporation tax up. And, yes, I run businesses. My self interest says “lower taxes” but I want a better country: better education, better healthcare, more investment. Those have to be paid for from taxation.

A lot of ungrateful moaning minnies on here. If you don't want it you can always give it back to the treasury.
This is true. Lord Sugar and other OAP famous people don’t want state pension so return it to HMRC
And winter fuel allowance.
For those on this thread who don’t need the cash they are going to receive can I please encourage you to donate it to your local primary school. So many are under funded these donations would help significantly - be an investment in the future of your locality and not be inflationary at all.
