Come on. Alistair is a spin-doctor, one of the best in the business. We don't know else was said after the show ended - he probably provoked McDonnell into an argument (and knowing his character that wouldn't have been difficult) and got the headlines he was looking for. Did the witnesses say who was continued the argument up to the point of expletives?

I didn't. It's most plausible (i.e. 100%) that he did say it but his spokesperson is hardly going to say "yeah, that's right he called him f*g ahole!"
I'm just saying let's get this in perspective. AC probably lied about the Iraq War versus this bad-tempered mouthy IRA-supporting Marxist who swore at someone after a live TV show in which they were at each other throats.
