Would that be the biggest election defeat ever?

To be honest I can’t see how they even get 98 seats the way they’ve been the last decade.it’s even questionable whether they can get even worse.

Viruses of the same, or greater, threat than Covid will come along from time to time. The flu pandemic of the late 1960s was arguable worse as the death toll was spread between children and the elderly rather than concentrated in those at the end of life.

So a future government will very likely face a similar scenario and so we have to learn from the mistakes this time round. The inquiry will not serve that purpose as it is primarily a political exercise.

Tories to hold under 100 seats to Labour’s 468, says exclusive poll
Desperate Conservatives cannot see a path to victory as MRP survey of 15,000 people suggests even Rishi Sunak’s seat is at risk
The question for the Tories is if it is going to be UK 1997 or Canada 1993.

It is looking ever more likely to be the latter but I am sure the Tory, soon to be former, MPs responsible have lucrative future positions already lined up so will not be too disheartened.

The party that split the right wing vote in Canada in 1993, and turned defeat into a wipe out, was called Reform.

The 1931 GE was a strange one in so far as Labour were reduced from 287 seats to just 52, but they were replaced by a National Government with the Liberals not contesting, so it’s anomalous. In 1951 Labour won the biggest share of the vote (48.8%) but under FPTP fewer seats than the Tories, interestingly turnout was almost 75%.

I recently read an article by a data specialist in the FT who had extrapolated all the polling and by-election data, based on his modelling he posited that the Tories could be reduced to under 50 seats, with Rees Mogg losing his. I’d stay up all night to witness the look on his face.

Good to see that the NI bribes didn't work.

Perhaps Hunt should have asked someone what proportion of the electorate actually pay NI. He would have discovered it's about 40%. laugh

Indeed. I’d stay up with this list and tick them off, one by one, with as many as possible being brought to account for the damage they have inflicted on the country.

I predicted 23 seats.
Even 99/100 would make it an impossible task to rebuild the party, so to all those that wanted Boris gone (and to quote Diane Abbot) ‘be careful what you wish for’.

I foresee a Labour government for at least the next 100 years if not forever

I think Julian needs a reboot. His programming has gone haywire.

Fabricant, Jenkins, Badenoch and Mogg. Be great to see their faces when they lose.

Don’t forget ‘hard man’ Steve Baker, unconfined joy if he and Mogg find themselves on the beach. Maybe Mogg could become a fire consultant, he could specialise in advising people who live in tower blocks to use their common sense. What a guy.

I like that. They really are the most useless bunch of politicians in history. Turned our great country into a failed state.

The Times yesterday suggested that a no confidence vote after the locals was now nailed on. Likely though that Rishi, although damaged even further, will survive to limp on. Perfect!

I would pay good money to sit there at the count and watch the face of Rees-Mogg as he lost, the utterly repellent cretin.

Hopefully he'd ruin his brogues by stepping into some dog eggs on the way out just to further make his night.

I doubt Mogg will lose from what I think I know of his constituency and if he's likely off to GB News to rail against "elites".

Just take some satisfaction knowing he will most likely never be near power again.

An absolute ghoul of a human being.
