Julius and Ethel Rosenberg - I've mentioned this more than once. Legal precedent established
Yeah, I wasnt aware of these two until relatively recently. Its a piece of history that completely passed me by (just like the last hanging in the UK was 1964!). I looked into it before and its not a fantastic endorsement of the US criminal justice system. Were they guilty? Yeah, but did they deserve the death penalty? Mmmm, tough one.

However, as you say, precedence has been set. It would be a brave prosecutor to push for the death penalty for Trump though. Yikes.

I read a biography about the whole sordid affair when I was still at hi-school, 40+ yrs ago. Details a bit foggy, given the time elapsed.

I understand trump is a fan of the death penalty too?
Yes, the couple who sold the US nuclear secrets to the Soviets in the 50's were executed.

If only......
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg - I've mentioned this more than once. Legal precedent established
Except that the Supreme Court can ignore precedent.

Byker I love when you say "lordy there are tapes"

The origin though - it was a gop thing right?
It was Comey and came as he was testifying to the Senate Intelligence committee. He was explaining about why he was fired, how trump had demanded his loyalty to him first and not the Govt, and asking if he was under investigation.

trump tweeted suggesting he had recorded their conversation “better hope that there are no ‘tapes’” , which Comey responded “I’ve seen the tweet about tapes. Lordy, I hope there are tapes,”

Sarah Huckabee Saunders as trumps spokesperson had to rapidly backtrack for him saying he didn't record people, but many other in trumps orbit said he regularly did.

trump loves a quid pro quo, or a threat. Whats she been offered? Can't see her taking a cabinet position?
So trump threats? Donor pressure? Has to be money, trumps been meeting with as many GOP donors as he can as he struggles for cash. Has he told them not to spend money with her?

Bidens campaign response is to put together clips of her supporters saying they will vote Biden

Another hail mary by Nauta trying to get the stolen classified docs case dropped for trump and him.

Federal prosecutor David Harbach angrily rejected lawyer Stanley Woodward's arguments in today's classified documents hearing that his client, Walt Nauta, had been indicted as retaliation for not cooperating with the government.

"It's a garbage argument, to begin with," Harbach said.

Later, when Woodward claimed the special counsel's office inappropriately sought to pressure Woodward, Harbach said, "Mr. Woodward's story about what happened is a fantasy."

"It did not happen."

Cannon also held a hearing from Nauta on trying to drop the case because of alleged procedural failures in the indictment., which she's punted a decision on

Justice Alitos excuse blaming his wife for the maga supporting flag at his house seems to be in tatters.

NYT are reporting that Samuel Alito, two years after flying an upside-down American flag outside his Virginia home, flew at his vacation home an 'Appeal to Heaven' flag, which, like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by Capitol rioters on Jan. 6.

It appears to have been flown over the course of several months.

Timing is interesting. It was just as Scotus wer getting the Fischer case on the use of Title 18 USC § 1512(c)(2) against insurrectionists.

GOP are planning another attack on Hinter Biden in an attempt to manufacture dirt to hurt Bidens re-election, claiming he lied to congress during his February deposition...

It looks like they are trying to use debunked testimony from Devon Archer, that foreign money was used to buy Hunter Biden a car, which is against Jordon/Comer's investigation when they claimed the money came from Joe Biden, wasn't declared, wasn't a loan etc.

Because so far all their 'evidence' against Biden has been made up, manufactured, lies, and debunked, so now they are trying again.

Expect Dems to counter with all the lies the trumps have told during their depositions...

Remember when George Santos was expelled for filing false financial disclosure statements and other ethics violations.

Seems GOP Andy Ogles has done the same for two years. He claimed he's loaned his campaign $320k many times, but after a News Channel 5 investigation revealed that to be false, he's now filed 11 revised financial reports with the Federal Election Commission saying he's only lent them $20k

Cruz still trying to facilitate trump, make excuses

Collins: They targeted not just your dad, but also your wife? I mean, this is someone who attacked your own members of your family. And what we learned from this testimony is that not only did Trump know about it, he coordinated it.

Except that the Supreme Court can ignore precedent.
It's not a Legal Precedent though. It is one of the many sanctions that can be applied under the legislation, depending on circumstances and severity. It is not binding on future Courts, as many subsequent cases have illustrated.
