Go into McDonalds and find chips on their menu!
I find the ban on the sale of unaccompanied chips madder than your statement on the other thread, and you know what I think of that
But...but....why?! The IOC goes 'McDonalds are the sponsor, they sell chips, nobody near the games are allowed to sell chips!!!' For what purpose? What's the justification? People might buy chips from places other than McDonalds if other outlets are allowed to use the word chip? People already do that now, mainly due to McDonald's being st I find the ban on the sale of unaccompanied chips madder than your statement on the other thread, and you know what I think of that
Seriously, what's the IOC's reason for this?

I've just seen they have renamed the O2 the "North Greenwich Arena"
If there's any British spirit left then restaurants will still use the word chips ( on a ten foot neon sign, just to make a point) and the public will call the 02 the 02 in defiance. The public will also turn up in branded clothing made by none of the official sponsors, wear a watch which isn't an Omega, take shopping bags branded by a non sponsor and lots of other things like that.

I don’t know if it’s my age, but I really don’t know any of the competitors in this Olympics (apart from Kelly Holmes..). I do remember the ones from the early ‘80’s, though – Daley Thompson, Seb Coe, Steve Cram/Ovette Fatima Whitbread, Tessa Sanderson (spelling!) etc.
Perhaps it was the same way back then, where corporations dictated to governments the T&C’s of their sponsorships, but I am sure it was a tad more covert.
I hate to be the one to break the news but Kelly Holmes will not be competing this year. Sorry.Perhaps it was the same way back then, where corporations dictated to governments the T&C’s of their sponsorships, but I am sure it was a tad more covert.

There's only one reason you can only buy chips (or use cash or visa etc) on their own at McDonalds, they've spent a lot of money sponsoring and want to make it back.
I know if I ran a restaurant nearby which sold Steak and Chips, it'd fking well still be called Steak and Chips during the games irrespective of what some jumped up cheap suit wearing bureacratic son of a bh clipboard toting turd came in and said.martin84 said:

They can sell steak and chips, or fish and chips but in the Olympic park they cannot sell chips on their own. But I don't know of any restaurants in the Olympic park.Besides, McDonalds have now backed down on the matter so it's now a non-news item.

They probably thought us brits walk around with a permanent bag of chips wrapped in newspaper and wanted some of that action. Then someone asked, and we don't.Besides, McDonalds have now backed down on the matter so it's now a non-news item.

It says also :-
Unsurprisingly all types of knives are banned – but an exception is made for "the Sikh article of faith kirpan/ceremonial dagger", which will be allowed .
So what if someone turns up in full Scottish kit, with his Skean Dhu in his sock? Did they overlook that, or a cock up in the article.
