At the moment we're just discussing Amazon using drones, imagine when every Tom, Dick and Harry retailer wants to start using them, the sky will be black with them. Also at the moment they're not particularly quiet and most have open rotors/propellers so you have the risk of your kid or pet running up to it and getting injured. Having said that, those problems should be pretty easy to solve. It will be the weather that will put the mockers on it in this country.
I would have thought the smart money would be on autonomous self driving electric vehicles delivering stuff to a locker attached to the outside of your building (kind of like your gas meter box). Much less weather dependent and probably easier to implement.
The authorities really haven't given much thought to how this could go have they. In the same way they're allowing the development of autonomous vehicles.

Again though this is early days so what the end result looks like is hard to say other than there will be a result involving autonomous machnines. AS for every tom dick or harry well if we have drones dropping off your paper etc of a morning with a few essentials then I am afraid Mr Patel's corner shop (racist maybe??) is going to be a thing of the past. Simply Amazon, tesco etc will supply those small items from there "Drone-Store" online and bigger items will come via there main online store using the "AI-Van" etc

less small shops less need for local shops selling jars of coffee an the daily mail etc, more chance for a few good quality local shops to spring up as an alternative etc.

I love technology, but delivery drones aren't a technology breakthrough and have as much chance of become mainstream delivery methodology as this has of being my means of getting to work

So I can order a bag of popcorn, and I get a free expensive drone too? Cool.

Where's your drone? Sorry, Amazon, no idea. Must have got lost on the way back.

What is that delivery vehicle doing on a pedestrian crossing?

Is there an expectation that cars will stop for it?

I imagine larcenous transits would. Certainly, as above, can't see those remaining unstolen for long.

Am I the only one who wants to see a delivery drone robber in the vein of Bond villains stealing subs or spaceships?

All this is is free publicity for Just Eat and Amazon. No real plans to use these ridiculous schemes.

Well I know in the UK there are lots of proximity ordering apps about to be launched in fast food places, so I presume it will be along those lines. The robot delivery thingy will be able to get so far and you walk out, let it scan your QR code and it'll open up to give you your food?

Or it'll be proceeding down the road and some tech savvy scumbag will give it a quick once over with a hand-held magnetron and blag the lot.
