Not sure how travel agents seem to survive in the Internet era. There must be a least a half dozen in my town including two Thomas Cook's and always look quiet. Once the oldies who are scared of the 'net start dying off, the traditional travel agent can't be too far behind.
Good shouts!

My in-laws shop there because they appear to like being ripped off
I have one near me, and when I pass it, I always think (without any proof) that they will be more than Currys and AO. So why even entertain going in?

And I think you could add Mitsubishi GB to that, too.

Only one product selling, the PHEV and now a lot of other manufacturers are producing competitive products.

Colt Car Co have had a recruitment freeze for years.

Both Mitsubishi and Subaru put all their eggs in the WRC basket and made a fortune out of Evos and Imprezas Now that market has gone, they have been left with little or nothing to offer.

All IMHO with a little inside knowledge.
I get Mitsubishi, albeit they have the L200 as well which is a strong seller in an already competitive market?

Subaru actually have a decent line up, but I guess they are seen as a little too left of field for the mainstream market?

Not a retailer but I think Telsa could have problems in 2018, burn rate is massive on cash, ''Tesla may be the largest public company in history to have never generated either positive annual cash flow or positive annual profit,"

I read that Mercedes were using Tesla tech for their electric cars. But now they have ditched Tesla as they have worked it out for themselves. Lets assume by a dose of backward engineering. I can't see it surviving for ever. It's trying to fight the might of the car manufacturers. Especially now he's spunking money on SpaceX as well.

Musk sort of reminds me of Howard Hughes in a way.

latest SMMT figures show that Subaru registered 2433 cars YTD down nearly 26% on the same period last year.
Total market was circa 5% down.

Subaru registered around 1000 cars less that SsangYong.
MG registered around 4000 cars.

International Motors also dropped Great Wall and have lost a number of brands over recent years, which that have tried and failed to replace.

Mitsubishi registered 534 LCV < 3.5t.

WH Smiths?

Went in there in my local town yesterday for the first time in ages. I was looking for an ink cartridge recycling box. They didn't have any and the shop only had a few people in.

I guess the stores in train stations and airports are profitable? Don't know why though if they are as they are quite expensive.
Don't WH Smith have a stranglehold on magazine/newspaper distribution though? I understand just about every independent newsagent is supplied either by Menzies or WH Smith.

Isn't it just a buying group for independant electrical retailers?

Nope - Smiths News is no longer in any way affilliated with WHSmith.

I really can't see Toys R Us surviving.
Other retailers that I've no idea how they manage to keep going:
  • The Edinburgh Woollen Mill
  • JD Sports
  • Millets
  • Robert Dyas

what i have never understood about the above is ot was not that the market for performance cars dissapeared more people did not want to spend £500 a year tax and get poor mpg when for same money they could get Golf or a Focus that had similar if not greater performance. Why both Subaru and Mitsubishi could not have made a hot hatch using 4x4 with engines that were not as high co2 is beyond me. Also subaru have made some great concepts then produced absolute gash products. I suspect its because the uk is not a priority market at all.

JD do exceptionally well.

Lots of limited edition clothing and seen as a desirable employer.

Tesla I think Bob Lutz has predicted their demise.

Not really a retail high street name but...Yodel

Simply the worst company ever. They even manage to make Ryanair’s customer service look good in comparison.

I hope they never ever come back when they eventually collapse

10 billion burn rate against a 60 billion worth, unprecedented. Even if they make and sell the 3, how the fk are they going to make a profit.

Millets owned by Sports Direct so they ain't going anywhere although they may just end up a subdivision within a Sports Direct store rather than have stand alone shops. Mike Ashley has been trying to buy into Debenhams for a while and if he succeeds you could see some of his brands like Millets as concessions within Debs. Millets do have a pretty good online presence though.

Good shout on Robert Dyas. Always seem absurdly expensive and never busy. Went in for a double plug and it was £3.50! Wilko's knock 'em out for 99p or something. Having a Wilko nearby must really hurt them. Plus you have new boys on the block like Clas Olsen (sp?) who do the same but cheaper.

Tesla's likely demise, due to debt, discussed for a few months in this thread here:

My local retail park has Currys and PC World as neighbours, been that way since before they were one and the same. I went into PC World today and they are selling fridges and cookers?

Must be a matter of time before they just do away with one brand. My bet would be PC World.

My local one on a retail park, which is huge, is just one big shop.

By the fact that your PC World sells cookers, might it not be one and the same ?
