Quick Google search indicates a gypsy/traveller site within a few miles of the murder scene.

10-11 people arrested?

Is there a camp round there or something?
I did wonder looking at the age range.
Well, it is the holidays - probably a 'join daddy at work day' for the wee young tinker.

If one thing is to come out of this tragedy i hope it is a national crack down on traveller types when ever they break the law. If the government won't do it i hope the various police services start to prioritise the illegal activities of these people.

It is totally unacceptable that this can happen because these people believe they can get away with their crimes

It's not just these wkers - it's the general feeling that scumbags think they can get away with stuff - and do you know why? Because they can? Because the last 20 odd years of bleeding heart human rights for these s and the Police having to fight them with both hands tied behind their backs brings us to exactly this.

Society needs a damn good wake up call. It will only get worse if we don't harden the fk up. Yup, there will be some collateral damage, hopefully kept to a minimum, but something needs top be done. The amount of assault on cops I heard earlier appalled me. Sickening.

Sadly there will be plenty of liberal utopian s who don't live in the real fking world that will stand up for these scumbags supposed rights, in fact they will be queuing up to get their fking ugly pierced mugs on the telly, except Tuesdays when they have to pick up the giro.

In rural areas, we have been putting up with st from these s for decades, and in that time, the law, and often, sadly, law enforcers have stepped away from the problem, and these "people" have exploited that, rather than appreciate a softer approach and start trying to be not such a bunch of s.

The stress, hassle and mayhem they cause in and increasingly for miles and miles around their ironically named traveller camps, is just not appreciated by c. 80% of the population, who's lives are not directly affected by it. But for some genuine, hard working, conforming tax paying communities, they are a proper scurge.

Watching the various TV programs featuring policing I am amazed at the amount of abuse you men and women have to put up with nowadays , let alone the tragic circumstances of this topic.
How you put up with it without giving them a clout is beyond me.
It is nigh on impossible for me to understand how ,in the course of a generation, the lack of respect not just for police, has degenerated.
Agreed. My sons love watching Police Interceptor type programmes and I am shocked and amazed at the utter detritus of humanity the Police have to deal with, all seemingly utterly devoid of a conscience or self-analysis. I do find myself fantasising about how satisfying it would be to give some of them an absolute beating.

Massive Respect to the Police, I couldn’t do the job.

Has anybody seen any evidence of such people advocating in the way you outline, either on TV or any other mainstream platform ?

I assume start the reason Police don't investigate gypsy related crime is largely because of low manpower allied to low probability of securing convictions versus their target driven politically decided targets not because of some concerted campaign about "rights".

A Policeman, married a month ago, killed.

A 52 year old Lawyer stabbed by a group of youths in Newcastle city centre. He died before he reached hospital.

Thats all in a couple of days. Its tragic that all of their family will be distraught forever, but the perps seem oblivious to it all.

This country really does need to address the issue of how to deal with them, and start handing out some life changing prison sentences to them.

Murder should get a minimum of 50 years, and preferably lock them up indefinitely..... and NO early release for ANY crimes. Let them rot in prison forever.

They really sicken me. Honest decent people are now afraid to speak out or take any action against these people for the fear of being attacked, or worse.

A very sad week indeed.

They're the most disproportionately over-represented group in prison.

Not sure where 'don't investigate gypsy related crime' comes from given that.

I stand corrected.

I had assume that stuff like tax investigations, B&E on unused land etc was simply too difficult / time consuming to secure convictions on.

Your stat though further underlines the point that whilst it makes for good frothing the "they're protected by do gooders" is patently bks.

I think the stuff that straddles between the police and council is the annoying part that seems like nothing is done i.e. pitch up on land. Matters where the process of getting court orders and other legal necessities are too slow and cumbersome. I'd support stronger legislation for that sort of thing.

Put them in the military and let them deal with them, I don't know why but I always feel our police never receive any respect, if you o to Spain you never get the feeling you would intimidate the national police.

I have seen this 'disproportionately over represented' statement before. But- does it mean in relation to their proportion of the community or in relation to the number of crimes they commit? If the former, perhaps all it tells us is that they are more likely to commit crimes than the community at large?
And there are other factors- perhaps they are less likely to pay fines/comply with non custodial punishments, so more likely to end up in prison?
Not meant to be a dig- I am genuinely curious.
