I knew we'd all just presume that, anyway.

Same place.

As an aside... I was never that bothered in the latter half of the cold war about the risk of nuclear war as we lived within sight of Menwith (a primary target) so it was never a question of survivability.

Happy Friday!

Used to deliver there ,told to head for "blubberhouses" and look for the golf balls. Harrogate was very nice back then, we would drive through the town to get there from the A1. I remember getting verbal abuse and a tomato thrown at my Truck by some "Wimmin" who had set up camp there on the main road just before you would turn right to get to the road running alongside and into the base itself. Front gate was manned by British coppers iirc.

Local CND members protested there for years. Once they claimed to have penetrated the base. Well, they got in to the canteen, apparently it's easier to get into a nuclear submarine than into the heart of the base.

Lets hope they get some cash and its the end to it but. With her having immunity I suspect it will be dismissed and the fsmiky will still feel bad. End if day there son died in an accident and nothing will ever change that. I am surprised Trump did not offer to settle and agree it goes away etc. I would have thought £1m would have been little to the US and made this go away.

I suspect the money is not the primary motivator, "justice" will be.

I suspect they will continue to be disappointed.

I wonder where would this sit with insurance. Assuming the driver was insured then would that insurance cover a civil claim in a US court where they tend to award millions in damages. I could also be possible the car was not specifically insured and covered by the US government.

I suspect the family may just want the driver to stand in court and admit the made a mistake.

Totally unrelated but that reminds me of a story in the press two or three years ago; an old lady had died and when her house was cleared out they found a Sten Gun (a sound moderated one which is really, really rare) and thousands of rounds of ammunition. She'd apparently been an intelligence officer involved with the Nuremburg trials translating, along with other stuff, and had been issued this and not to tell anyone. She obviously followed her orders remarkably well!

I believe that some people were issued weapons and ammo to keep hidden and would have been the ‘resistance’ in the event of a German occupation.

Totally O/T but one of the officers responsible for organising the 'Auxiliary Units' was Captain Peter Fleming, his brother Ian was well known for his writing...

Cool. Still O/T Peter Fleming was a writer too, his ‘Brazilian Adventure’ is regarded by some as one of the best travel books ever written. Nothing to do with shaving.

I don't think my Grandma was a spy and we didnt find anything exciting when she died. She was more on the management and administrative side and in later years she was on the board of the Royal Air Forces Association.

Traditionally, in the UK, the criminal does not get to decide on the sentence.

Yeah but her lawyer argues that in the US, this sort of thing wouldn't have been prosecuted criminally.

Errr....so?

California treats driving in the wring side as a felony if it involves death or injury and the sentence is up to 3 years before any factors such as during drive etc are taken into account.

That kind of blows a hole in the argument.
