I used to detest Piers Morgan, but like the Farage he has a sort of resiliency that's hard to ignore. Certainly a breed apart. Is this kind of man simply a modern professional or are both unprincipled and arrogant? Or are plenty of modern professionals just built that way... .
A bit like Putin, al-Assad and Khamenei then...sugerbear said:

Morgan said he's "never hacked a phone or told anyone else to hack a phone".
What are the chances he knew very well what was going on during his editorship, however…
The judge has said in his summary that Morgan was aware. He can deny it all he wants. What are the chances he knew very well what was going on during his editorship, however…

Clarkson wasn't friendly with Morgan but was friends with Rebekah Brooks and defended her when she was charged then cleared of phone hacking so unlikely it was him.
I think "phone hacking" is a bit of an overplay really. It's more like, the code for your front door was left at the default and nobody told you that it should be changed.
I'm particularly surprised the spooks didn't give the royals/politicians the heads up - unless of course they were using the same tactics.

I'd say that "phone hacking" only overstates it from the point of view of the technical expertise needed. Not from the point of view of the deliberacy or dishonesty of it. Unless I'm mistaken, it couldn't be done accidentally and for me that's the only issue that matters. But I guess you've said that anyway - if someone's front door isnt locked it doesnt mean that it's any less dishonest of you to walk in. I'm particularly surprised the spooks didn't give the royals/politicians the heads up - unless of course they were using the same tactics.

Have a look at the Daily Mail website this evening. They usually have about 50 H&M stories.
How much coverage of today? A tiny tiny little box about ten scrolls down on their site. Utter scum.
Utter scum yet you obviously visit the DM site regularly. HmmHow much coverage of today? A tiny tiny little box about ten scrolls down on their site. Utter scum.
I went to look because someone on twitter mentioned it.
No one other than rage desperate weirdos look at the Daily Mail

The answer doesn’t match the accusation. He’s using words to deny something we know he knew about.
When this happened 20years or so ago with people leaving the default passcode, if it was described to me I would not have regarded it as hacking. It was more akin to walking into a house where the door is open.
These days it’s called hacking. Then, it was called taking advantage of stupid asses.
No sympathy for the victim and the guy in charge is a slime ball.
That’s HRH ginge and the swamp rat Morgan by the way.

Agreed on the last bit.
But poor questioning really.
I thought Morgan made a statement, don’t get your poor questioning remark but think I’m probably on a different wavelength. Whatever, Mirror Group were paying out big money to the people hacking celebs, it’s inconceivable that the Editors weren’t aware. Stephen Fry had it right. But poor questioning really.
