Tax it, redistribute the money to the state system. Cut your cloth accordingly and if you can't afford it then there's a perfectly good state system you can transfer across. That is unless there's a stigma attached to state schooling in your circle..
State schools are already over crowded and ste, that is why people go private. If state schools were any good then, like any other service, you wouldn't need to go private. Adding more headcount to already stretched resources will hardly help.768 said:

But they can simply stop buying vapes and tattoos and they'll be fine.
The middle classes sending their kids to private schools however simply can't afford to cut back so it's all unfair and mean.
At least you admit it's just about class war for you.The middle classes sending their kids to private schools however simply can't afford to cut back so it's all unfair and mean.
Whenever there's a thread about benefit claimants, poverty, those having to choose between heating and eating, etc posters are very quick to dismiss them as feckless, lose the Sky TV and to simply work harder
Now we (maybe) have something that may affect the wealthier section of society and the same posters all scream how unfair it all is that they may have to make difficult choices that the poorer members of society have to make every single day.

I remember when this used to be the Sunak thread. Bit of a head scratcher why none of you want to talk about the guy who insists he has a plan while literally stood in a rain storm without an umbrella in his own thread.
At the moment, the only policy presented by either Cons or Lab is the public school VAT one...I remember when this used to be the Sunak thread. Ultimately, at the moment there's not a lot to talk about. The fact he got soggy and might well be an utter plum on his timings (of both announcement and GE) has already been done.

War on the lower classes.
War on ‘woke’ i.e war on anti-bigots
War on immigration
War on race and religion
War on public services and infrastructure
Heaven forbid a tax break is removed from the wealthy on school fees

You made it about class, if it's daft that's on you.Whenever there's a thread about benefit claimants, poverty, those having to choose between heating and eating, etc posters are very quick to dismiss them as feckless, lose the Sky TV and to simply work harder

It's not a difficult choice for them. They can just send their kids to a school in Switzerland, or put them in state school. Either way they'll do fine and it's the state which loses out.

On one level you're correct. PE is about class war, just not in the way you think it is. All the data bears it out, pe educated kids occupy the top echelons of society in severely disproportionate quantities. Law, politics, arts, media, buiness. PE is a severe driver of social immobility, it dishes out the best life chances at a discount, so yes it's class war but one that dunks on the majority. It's not a difficult choice for them. They can just send their kids to a school in Switzerland, or put them in state school. Either way they'll do fine and it's the state which loses out.

One chose to stand outside and get soaked
One chose to stand inside and stay dry
I want a PM who can make sensible choices
Standing in the rain and pretending everything is going well pretty much sums up this government.

That's exactly the class war argument I see being made.
But the policy does nothing to address it, if anything it just makes it worse.
Yep, and removes that social mobility created by people sacrificing to send their kids to public school who can just about afford it.But the policy does nothing to address it, if anything it just makes it worse.
Same with the assisted place scheme - if it weren't for that, my year would have had far fewer poor kids like me. Once it got removed, then the numbers of scholarship students dropped massively. My brother is smarter than me, but family simply couldn't afford what was remaining after scholarship.
Social mobility outcomes are stark in our family. I've had a great career, etc. - he's a bar manager for a run down Royal British Legion and lives the same life (in fact worse) than his parents. I don't.

Agree. The visuals were shockingly bad for Rishi. Why did they let that happen? Can’t imagine Tony Blair - or even Dave - being put in that position. Just a shambolic way to kick off a campaign. They really are a poor. One chose to stand outside and get soaked

This goes round too. Vat has been off the menu for pe since about 1972 from memory, Prior to that, I don't recall many Lord chancellors from Bog street comprehensive but no matter. On the data side of the argument, we have the true believers insisting it won't raise any money & will stuff state schools with unfortunate kids. on the other we occasionally see IFS assessments offered that paint a different picture & it is instantly denigrated as guesswork, So, if the IFS is way off, presumably there is some readily available & credible data set proving the argument, else you're just guessing too.But the policy does nothing to address it, if anything it just makes it worse.
My view is a sector that has had over 50 years in one financial model & is now straing down the barrel of another has no concrete data by definition, only modelling. Ergo, the argument isn't proven.
