The met office computer predicted position of the thickest ash cloud is so close to LGW that aircraft can depart after 07:00 but not land until 13:00.

The predicted position of the cloud is on the approach just to the west of the airport so aircraft can depart in an easterly direction but aircraft can't be vectored in to land from the west. What nonsense.

I have to agree with the above post completely. Box ticking and rules being followed blindly based on a computer simulation.

Meanwhile at other nameless airports in Europe... :Gallic shrug:

The pressure in the lava column is off, as it's all moving up through Katla now hehe

I was watching Nat Geo or something over the weekend, it was just on as background noise and they were talking about the volcanoes, I hear him mention Katla, and then he mentioned the one that has been going off, and for the first time I actually heard how it is pronounced, all the news coverage and such like didn't actually have anyone saying the name, it was printed, just always mentioned as the erupting volcano, Iclandic volcano and such like.

This guy on the program said it a few times, and each time it sounded the same, so I guess he had been practising it a lot, though, I can't remember now how it was pronounced smile

RESTING!! I tell you it's dead, the only reason it didn't fall off its perch is that it had been nailed there. ...
