Snowmageddon - this Friday
Discussion
We left early for school today as it's over 3 miles away up and down steep hills. I told my son we didn't have an excuse not to go now that I have a FFRR, even though it's on standard tyres.
Took half an hour as opposed to 10 minutes, mostly because the local riding school decided to bring in the horses from the field on the main route past another school and slowed all the traffic to a crawl. Again. Why they don't bring in/turn out the horses out of rush hour, I'll never know.
Anyway! Just as we arrived at school, I received a text telling me school was closed. FFS. A little notice would've been nice!
On the upside - I was able to give the RR a good go in the snow. It was fab! Loads more capable than my old Volvo on winter tyres. I got back home with no problems, I didn't even have to take a run-up to the drive. (I once had to park my Volvo half on and half off the drive when I couldn't get any further up it, luckily we live at the end of a cul-de-sac and didn't block anybody!) It just got on with the job. Might take it out to some inaccessible place for a play once it stops snowing.

Bristol is ace...
The schools were being announced as closed yesterday evening, before a flake fell (except my niece's school where the head refuses to close and tells everyone to walk )
The buses have all been cancelled
The roads are chaos (well anything leading to a gradient) so more and more people are having a snow day.
The Indian kids down the road are playing football in the snow, mad as hatters and crazy about football
How are you coping with the hills though? The hilly nature of Bristol has brought my winter tyre shod BMW to a halt...The schools were being announced as closed yesterday evening, before a flake fell (except my niece's school where the head refuses to close and tells everyone to walk )

The head of the school my daughter teaches at is like that but they get ordered to close the school by the LA.The schools were being announced as closed yesterday evening, before a flake fell (except my niece's school where the head refuses to close and tells everyone to walk )
My son-in-law teaches in a very rural school - he left very early and got there at 7.30AM only to be told they were closed as the school meals service isn't operating.

Take time to remember elderly neighbours in this weather people. They tend to have really grippy footwear and could pick you up some essentials from the shops.
I did fall flat on arse in the snow a couple of years ago after giving a guy in a Merc a push - not sure what I did, seemed fine at the time, but I must have jolted my arm and it still gives me jip now.
The view from my flat in Hampshire a few minutes ago. Just been out for a drive, having played Russian roulette with car choice and took the MR2 rather than the TVR. It was pretty sporty in places. There's only one road out from the house, and it's hilly at both ends. The abandoned cars are starting to build-up locally. People generally seem to be screwing the nut and driving reasonably, apart from the bloke in the oncoming car who decided to turn right in front of me and understeered into the scenery, completely missing the corner. I waited for him to reverse back out...
Not going out again though. We've got plenty food and beer, and I'm not at work until next week. Hope the Mrs makes it back from work this evening!

That would be me! As a bit of a joke (I think?) one of my kids bought me a set of those springy things that go on your shoes - I'm going to test them in a bit.

I bought a couple of the ones with the spikes on last year. I did fall flat on arse in the snow a couple of years ago after giving a guy in a Merc a push - not sure what I did, seemed fine at the time, but I must have jolted my arm and it still gives me jip now.
They work pretty well. That is to say I've not yet fallen on my arse while wearing them.

I'm just wondering if I go for a spin in the FFRR - all the carbon dioxides might warm the UK up enough such that this utter DESTRUCTION AND END OF THE UK AS WE KNOW IT (DUE TO SNOW) is avoided.
Hmmm.
We don't get snow anymore, this is the warmest January on record and Polar bears are almost extinct you heartless bdHmmm.
