Death simply isn't an appropriate punishment here.
I see a Darwin award perhaps but suggesting keying your SUV deserves cancer (sorry for your loss BTW ) is way OTT and makes this sound like a Daily Mail whinge written by someone who would rather live in the Sudan or Saudi.
But it is not punishment is it. This was not handed down by a judge it is a natural justice the best kindI see a Darwin award perhaps but suggesting keying your SUV deserves cancer (sorry for your loss BTW ) is way OTT and makes this sound like a Daily Mail whinge written by someone who would rather live in the Sudan or Saudi.
Saying it is "justice" implies that it is an appropriate punishment.
Whether it is "natural" or judicial is irrelevant.
Saying "he deserved it" means that death by drowning is the correct way to deal with bike crime.
You can't hide behind "it's karma - hooray!"
There is nothing special about this particular case.
If you say THIS GUY deserved to drown - then EVERY BIKE THIEF deserves to drown. (Since we are all the same in the eyes of the law.)
Unless you know something idiosyncratic about this particular example, which you have chosen not to share.
This isn't rocket science - it is called rational thought.
Sure I feel less sorry for him than some struggling mum-of-two on her way to the shops but that doesn't mean BIKE THIEVES DESERVE TO DIE!!!
You guys need to think about what you are posting before making some half-arsed back track.

Your semantics are off, IMHO.
Quite the opposite, I would say. I have noticed on a few threads now that you seem to ignore or deny the use of "deserved" in the imprecise, colloquial "Well you deserved that!" sense. The world is not a courtroom.
I guess I always thought it was rather binary - either you deserve something to happen to you or you don't.
Or it's just back luck I suppose.

Fair enough! Please tell me then what "you deserved that" means colloquially to you?
Someone taking their coat off while cycling along on a pushbike takes an unexpected soil sample. They don't strictly deserve the injury and pain they are likely to receive, but at the same time they kind-of did...grumbledoak said:

I probably shouldn't take things too literally.
Damn. I came here for the full half-hour too...

Spoken like a normal human being.
If you'd like a society where criminals die more regularly there's a few places to choose in the world. Maybe you'd prefer Iraq or Syria?
Id like a society where they don't pander over the criminals and treat them as if they are the victimsIf you'd like a society where criminals die more regularly there's a few places to choose in the world. Maybe you'd prefer Iraq or Syria?
Have you actually been a victim of a violent crime? I wouldn't wish that upon anyone but if you had, I suspect you wouldn't be so forgiving
But I don't believe criminals dying is a good result.
Anyway, this was a bike theft? Hardly a serious assault. And I've had bikes stolen before and I know it is horrible. Still wouldn't wish death on the thieves.
I guess having ambulance crews take risks to resuscitate people, or police to visit homes of bereaved familes is ok to you is it? And what about the £millions spent on inquests? All ok is it so you can satisfy the bloodhungry lust of the uneducated?

maybe its a lesson to the poor misguided soul's who find temptation just too much to bare. If you do bad things don't be surprised if they catch up with you.But I don't believe criminals dying is a good result.

As if you think it is acceptable to go around then committing violent assaults i wouldn't really want you in my world
Have you considered the fact that in committing a violent assault, I was simply responding to an initial and unprovoked violent assault upon myself? As if you think it is acceptable to go around then committing violent assaults i wouldn't really want you in my world
Nope, thought not.
Context, mate. It's quite important.

Committed violent assaults myself. but that was OK because they deserved them I suppose?
So no, I don't think death is a suitable punishment in this instance, or that he deserved to die. Very few people 'deserve' to die. or suffer violent assaults
As for the internet hardmenHhum...

I hope the /s who keyed my car get a very painful and incurable form of cancer.Remember Tony Martin and the two "high spirited" young things breaking and entering his own property.
When will we stop making excuses for scum.
I am certain that a lot of pistonhead forum users have had to struggle to get to where they are in life why should someone just be able to take things without serious consequences.
