And no other leaders gone back on their word?It is of course true that politicians break promises - no increase in tuition fees, and no cuts to tax credits, spring immediately to mind But breaking political manifesto promises and breaking personal promises are two different matters.
No example springs immediately to mind of a party leader who says "If I lose this election I will stand down as leader," stands down, and then stands up again all in the matter of a few days. Can anybody else think of an example?
On a scale of 1 to 10 of politician's integrity, that move scored about minus 4, and may have something to do with the loss of momentum that UKIP appears to be currently suffering. It makes it look like the party leader is about as trustworthy as the proprietor of Honest Arthur's Used Car Emporium.

As semi retired penniless potential author perhaps you could help the other fella with his Xmas cracker jokes...trouble is you can't keep putting the same on in each cracker.
Wasn't you on the Avon Valley Xmas special helping Santa was it?

It may be "boring" to you, but if UKIP want to be a serious party on the UK political stage then they have to up their game. Carswell is the only one of them who is an elected MP and, if the party has any sense, they will listen to what he has to say. Somehow I have my doubts that they will.
Sadly, for you and for other UKIP supporters, you have to appeal to the wider public out there, not just yourselves. They are not going to do it by continual infighting - that turns the public off.
And no, I wasn't helping Santa out at Bitton - they run that sort of event to pull in the punters, so they wouldn't want me there putting customers off by spouting politics, would they

Jeez mate....bit of friendly advice as it's nearly Xmas........ give it a rest, chill, have some mulled wine.... strangely you really do seem to be worrying about all of this far more than any Kipper I have heard....if you really are that anti UKIP you should be rejoicing not giving them advice IMHO..... ...(my edit)That's all true. However, a goodly % of voters for UKIP are not necessarily as politicised or as questioning as some others are. They may be more likely to take a more generous and favourable view. That's the trouble with thinking one's opinion is the only or most important one available. After all, the entire electorate have never demonstrated their forensic understanding of politics, have they? How many 'trustworthy' politicos do you know to be worthy of the praise?
Wow, that stirred up a hornets nest
It's funny how many kippers have crept out of the woodwork to attack that post but have been so very quiet on the subject of the very public spat between the glorious leader and ukips only elected MP.
So, less attacking of me and my jokes and more discussion of why UKIP should be trying to strong arm Carswell.
Of course, if we can all agree its because UKIP funds have all been spent by Farage and his cronies, and that they are trying to get their hands on the short money then we can just close the thread.
Anyway, heres a picture of Farage thinking about the benefit Carswell has brought to "his" party:

the problem is he hasn't.Carswell does not seem to understand that the 'short' money is not awarded based on one constituency, it's based on the % of the national vote.
his dogmatic attitude to this is causing UKIP very serious issues, and to be honest, you have to wonder just how intelligent he is not to see and understand this.
As pointed out above, he was voted for by just 19,000 people, BUT his party were voted for by just shy of 4 Million, he needs to understand that as UKIP's only MP, he has to represent *all* of them, not just his constituency.
Short money is based on:
From 1 April 2014, eligible parties receive £16,689.13 for every seat won at the last election plus £33.33 for every 200 votes gained by the party.
so, loosing Carswell and his constiuency would cost them:
£33.33 * (19,642 / 200) = £3,273.33
+ £16,689.13 = £19,962.47
out of the ~£670K they are entitled to.
This comes back to do the voters vote for their MP or the party (or party leader)?

Farage wants us to be an independant country that isn't subserviant to Brussels.
Currently the "leave" campaign are ahead in the polls.
Farage is a very happy man at the moment. His dream could well come true as soon as June 2017.
Isn't that a fantastic prospect?
Not new, but quite telling, Farage's ex-right hand man;
Reading some posts here, bold part is not surprising at all.

Kassam's appearance on Newsnight came shortly after an interview he gave to The Guardian was published. In the article he described Ukip's central-London HQ as "like a fking playground". It was a place, he said, that when journalists visited, he often had to "lock certain doors because the people behind those doors were too embarrassing to be seen".
Despite Ukip predictions that the party would be sending a sizeable number of MPs to Westminster at the election, Carswell ended up being the only one elected.
But Kassam questioned whether the former Tory MP belonged in Ukip. "There's no doubt Douglas is a very intelligent man," he said. "I just don't think he fits into a political party.
“I think he sees Ukip as being an independent. Whereas actually the way to be independent is to sit as as an independent MP.
He added: "I don't think he is willing to play the sort of push and pull you have to in a political party. I don't think he's really managed to fit in anywhere in Ukip."
The former Ukip aide told The Guardian that he and Farage would enjoy "PFLs" or “proper fking lunches" during the campaign. He told Maitlis it was a "Faragism" for a "three or four bottle lunch".

UKIP exists to get us out of the EU.
Once we have left the EU, then there won't be any point in having UKIP. I suspect that most of their members will join the Conservative party and bring it back to the centre ground.

that's a pretty short sighted view, I can only assume you'll never bothered reading the manifesto from UKIP?UKIP exists to get us out of the EU.

it covers such things as having an energy policy that doesn't involve bankrupt in which country or an immigration policy that stops us being flooded with undesirables, etc etc.

Given that El Presidente Farage himself admitted he didn't read the 2010 manifesto - immediately before he then described it as 'drivel' (how he'd know, not having read it, is another matter) - you can't blame folk for not actually reading the 2015 version, partly because of the reasonable expectation that it would be full of bat-shyte-crazy populist mentalism, designed to appeal to the congenitally hard-of-thinking, but also because whoever gets the Chief 'Kipper gig next - after Nigel finally disappears up his own fundamental orifice - is equally likely to be consigning the 2015 edition to the drivel bucket. The 'kippers are their own worst enemy, by several orders of magnitude.
