The so-called Lady is making suitably deniable guarded references to the calumny of flying your national flag indicating by default you are a little Englander with all the negative correlations she imagines that covers. That gives the returnable indication of the true level of her assumed intelligence. The so-called Lady, I believe by marriage rather than achievement, although that may be more in hope than actuality, is as ignorant and aloof as an ignorant and aloof thing could be.

I'm no fan of the woman, but in fairness to her, she doesn't use the title - that mainly seems to be Tory MPs.A bit more controversy over the Spanish cover of his book, which some people are stating promotes Anti-Semitic imagery.
To which Owen responds in his usual measured way, including "accidentally" liking a tweet saying 90% of Anti-Semitism claims are made up smears

Whether the image was appropriate to use or not, it does seem odd that a man whose entire career rests on him finding the remotest suggestion of racism in everything and getting outraged about it, sees nothing wrong with the image.

Humour me as I'm the sort of idiot who doesn't get why people are anti-semitic and needed to be told that Claudia Winkelman and Rachel Riley were Jewish because it's just not something that I give any thought to.To which Owen responds in his usual measured way, including "accidentally" liking a tweet saying 90% of Anti-Semitism claims are made up smears

What's anti-semitic about that image?
To me it's a fat greedy pig?

It's a common Anti-Semitic trope to say Jews are greedy with money, and the art style is very similar to Nazi propaganda showing the same thing. As mentioned, this is a man who will go hunting for supposed racism in every last aspect of life, so it seems odd that he thinks this one is just a joke, or that he's happy using an artist who also made this:What's anti-semitic about that image?

I know the trope but I'm not familiar with Nazi propaganda or things like Der Sturmer and I've just spent 30 seconds googling "Seix Barrel" thinking that might be the artist.I just assumed it was a fat greedy "establishment" pig.

Slightly amusing that the resemblance to Nazi propaganda is being used to berate Jones. I just assumed it was a fat greedy "establishment" pig.
As it turns out, there was a *lot* of Nazi propaganda, some of which had quite an influence on art and media (not due to people being sympathetic to the cause, but because it developed a number of modern techniques of presentation and film). So finding a similarity is - in itself - not really quite as telling as people would wish.

The face does not have the caricatures often lazily used to portray Jew's historically but I can see why some might feel Jones is sailing close to the wind. My thoughts were the picture was analogous of Joe public scurrying at the feet of a fat cat capitalist, in itself a lazy trope these days. I guess I'm not looking for offence, but again, it shows how careful anyone with a public profile must be. As to Jones using an artist that has caricatured Jews in such a way, thus garnering comparison through a back door left wide open, he should have know better....unless he is trying to stir up controversy/interest in his book, naughty little capitalist!!

I wonder sometimes if people see what they want to see too.As it turns out, there was a *lot* of Nazi propaganda, some of which had quite an influence on art and media (not due to people being sympathetic to the cause, but because it developed a number of modern techniques of presentation and film). I saw this.
It's the reaction to the criticism that's the worse part than the original issue with the cover.
I'd give the benefit of the doubt over the cover, the rest is slightly tricker.
Plus Owen is the master of the Twitter pile-on yet expects people to accept his attempts at weaselling out when you know he'd never do the same. Say for example the 'accidental' retweets.

Treating someone like an ahole, just because they behave like an ahole toward others, in similar circumstances, does not make things right.Digga said:

Nope, dont buy it, sorry. If someone acts like an ahole towards me, I am told to act the bigger man and just act nicely back. fk that st all day long, it's how we ended up allowing China to become all powerful and how we ended up with Jeremy Corbyn leading Labour and how we end up with Owen Jones getting more air time (in both literal senses) than he deserves.Digga said:

Owen Jones: Man jailed for attacking journalist
Not bad for an attack that many thought didn't happen.
